Managed to cut off the channel iron rear crossmember.
Made up a sort of jig to keep everything straight and level.
The new one is not secure yet.
I want to get it all level and straight then re-check all my dimensions to the drawing in the manual.

Thanks Gary i found Hollow bar and will have it machined to fit the steering relay and the chassis.
I will need to find a picture to see how much this needs to be sticking out the bottom.
Or is it similar to my S3.

Surely the 2 locating bolts at the top will determine how far it sticks out the bottom?

It is the same as the Series 3 - you will also need the flange plate fixed by 4 bolts to the chassis frame.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy the required length off Gary and courier it up to you rather than paying someone to do that turning work?
    Cheers,

Hahaha....that might take another month or 2.....

The tube sits flush with the bottom of the CM. Then there a “locator plate” that is bolted to the bottom of the CM.
Said plate centers the steering relay. Pack that puppy with copper slip when you put it in, grease just melts away and makes a mess of your pretty chassis

I run a bit of silicone sealant around the top in the gap between the relay and the chassis. This stops any water and muck getting in there to rust and bind it up. Makes it easier to remove next time.

    Decided to strip the engine.
Head has gone in for nice new parts and full check.
Inlet and outlet manifolds are being acid washed.
What a mess draining the sump and cleaning. Managed to bump 3 L of old oil on the floor
Made a very very rough engine stand for cleaning rebuilding and spray painting.

You have developed the itch that can never be sufficiently scratched, that Landy must be restored down to every last nut and bolt and then the add-ons start..

    Update:
Brand new, bearings, pistons, complete rebuild of engine, head and all.
Found as close to dammit engine paint, the Duck Egg Blue.
It is an odd colour that changes a lot in different lighting conditions.
