Rys vleis en Aartappels. Recipe very popular with the old Boesmanland farmers. They called it "tog kos". Easy to make while they trek sheep in the old days.Only difference is they added the rice to the pot.

As said I am not a huge potjiekos fan. When I do make a pot like lamb like in your case I only add potatoes. I do not like to kill the taste of lamb or mutton with lots of veggies and spices. We cook the veggies as separate dish.

    Lyk lekker

Came out great! Jip we grew up with calling gekookte huiskos that.

Proper gekookte old fashioned boerekos. A meal like that was never complete if it did not include rys, vleis en aartappels.

You must try adding some tinned pineapple to that, makes it even more awesome. The pot looks perfect Meneer.

It is raining here so I am hiding under the dak. Managed to finish Karlien's Oven dakkie to make it rain proof but had not planned on using it today.

The plan was a mutton potjie but with one needing to ration the happy juice I decided to make mutton stew. And a Men's Muesli, at last.

When the nyama gets noisy after folding ( fancy speak for roering) a few times, I added soya sauce and some garlic and cover with water, with lid going on. I prefer to use balsamic vinegar for this step but I see mine is phelile, klaar, finish and gone but soya sauce also works.

It needs to go into a rolling boil ( fancy speak for boil the living daylights out of it) and topping up with water as and when required for about an hour, depending of course on your hest source. If I was doing this on a wood fire it is 30 min tops, but bottled flames and the silly cooker top ain't so hot.
