Last time we dis the final accent we had to attach a rope to the rear bumpers of the jeeps to secure them from tipping over on one of the rock decents , i am not sure if all of us would be able to chokka the Mog on that part, but we are going to give it a try, i am just glad I am not David in the driving seat nearly 3m up , and you cant see squat as you drop over the edge , in a jeep its scary , but we did it , and the same goes cumming back , have to tie the rope to the front for security .
Absolutely - anybody is welcome to store gear in or on the Unimog for as long as there is space.

However, as I read Deon's scary words above, I have to add a disclaimer that I'm not replacing your gear if we tip over - will have enough troubles of my own if that happens, thank you very much!

It really, really takes a lot to tip over a Unimog though (it has a huge amount of its weight low down in the axles), so I have to think that the conditions would have to be quite extreme. Eager to find out ;-)

I have owned a Mog they can take serious side inclines. Once saw a demo of Mog with a Factory driver from Germany real scary stuff. 38 deg side slope and 45 deg incline if I remember correctly.

Most vehicles can handle level side hills of 40*, compound side hills are another story all together...
That is where wheel travel and supple suspensions come into play.

Good luck! Hope you post pics on this thread once the additions are complete? I think we're all curious :-)

The Jimny's opposite end of the spectrum, the Unimog, is also going to the shop today for a new clutch (which is a labour-intensive *mission* to install).

It's going to be great fun to have the big and the small on the same, apparently hectic, trail...

I'll post pics once I get it back. So far I have managed to get away without a transfer case plate, by careful choice of lines and dumb luck. Knowing that I am going to be scraping the belly over boulders, I decided that discretion was the better part of valour. I'm also fitting front and rear diff protectors, as it's not environmentally friendly to pollute the river with diff oil.

That's a great idea! In my opinion, you will be more than fine if you ensure maximum protection to the underbody mechanicals - provided you don't compromise clearance too much :-)

That is such a great thing to think of, thank you! When I read about the first trip there, I immediately cringed at the thought of the diff oil in the river from everybody's leaks due to damage.

Oil pollutes water in tiny dilutions (parts per million). I am specifically replacing all rubber seals around my Mog's torque tubes etc to try to ensure zero oil leakage.

I would like to appeal to everybody to think of what they can do to their own vehicles to ensure that not one unnecessary drop of oil is spilt into the river if possible...

I'm picking softroadertjie up from the Indi this afternoon.
Did a major service. Replaced some bushes and ball joints to sort a death wobble that haunted me.
Added a skid plate for the sump.

As soon as the ratios and locker gets here it will go in again and then I think I am ready.

Water in die rivier gaan maak vir slip & slide , gaan baie konsentrasie vat om lyne reg te lees en te ry . Maar dis die challenge van Carnage
