Default Searching For Campsites,Backpackers,Places Of Interest, Mountain Passes And Eateries

Evening All, SWAMBO and I are trying to get a list of off the beaten track trails and campsites within approximately 3 hours drive of Durban North to enable us to draw up a bucket list. Priorities would be security, as most of our camping will be done alone. The roads need to be passable for the Pathfinder, and as most of our camping will be done in a tent or a rooftop tent.....we are in the process of getting the vehicle set up, so we should be fairly self sufficient. An added bonus would be some nice scenery to photograph and some nice mountain bike routes....once again keeping the security aspect in mind.

I will keep the forum posted on our travels, as well as any gems we may find.....campsites,backpackers,eateries,4x4 trails etc.

    Regards

    Markus and Zelda

Found a really nice campsite in Pennington this weekend.....not much in the way of 4x4 nearby but lovely site with large shaded stands, immaculate ablutions and super friendly staff. They also have a reasonably priced pub, that has a huge fire and a theme meal every Saturday evening.

Will be sampling Little Wing TeePee Camp next weekend and using it as a base to do Sani and some driving in Lesotho.

    Will keep you posted.

Some B&b's and lodges would kill for a chill area like this. Never mind "Off the beaten track" campsites.

3 weeks ago we were at Bushwillow in the Karkloof outside Howick. Really nice quiet spot in the mist belt, so quite chilly, right near a well established MTB facility, brilliant birding. Really nice farmers market nearby on Saturday morning.

Stayed in Underberg to do Sani,Lesotho and Golden Gate over the weekend. Accommodation was in a stunning teepee camp called Little Wing....very reasonable and 5km out of Underberg, so very peaceful. Managed to do 17 mountain passes in total.
