My power steering started leaking two weeks ago and the local Toyota say the whole steering rack will be replaced, manufacturing defect apparently.

Hi everyone, Iím looking to install a towbar that does not get in the way too much of the departure angle. Is there any good brands that you can recommend. Also what is your opinion on the towbar that has the removable tow ball which can accommodate a pin for recovery purposes?

Maybe contact Autobar in Pta, they might be able to help.

    Hallo almal,

Missed this thread and I find it very interesting and I have read through it.

I also need to decide soon. I need to buy a doublecab 4x4.

Here are my questions in no particular order.

Does anybody regret taking a 2.4 and not a 2.8 or the V6 so if you could choose all over again will it still be the 2.4?

Does the goodies which are available on the SR make it worth looking at it as opposed to the SRX?

I might be able to buy a 2.4 new but if it is one of the other two it must be secondhand.

I am retiring soon so travel will be reduced to 10 to 12 KKM per year. I want to keep it for 20 years if I can.

So 2.4 with an extended warrantee and service plan (maximum) versus secondhand with very little or nothing in this regard if I buy secondhand I guess.

Coming from a Colt Rodeo 2.8 TD the 2.4 has more than 100NM more torque so it looks like it will pull our Gypsy Regal with ease.

    Thanks Johan

    Sorry forgot the last question.

Will it be worth waiting for the new face lift which I guess will be coming out next year only as it looks like it will be the same except for the different face pretty much.

I must say I still struggle to get used to the massive grill. Somehow I like the current face lift.

    Johan,

I recently bought a 2.4 SR (not the SRX) single cab, manual. Secondhand. Previously had a 2.5 SRX single cab. Also, secondhand. I can't afford new. Mayor difference in power.
Buying new is more piece of mind but much more money. Especially if retiring soon. Look for a demo from Toyota as option. Might come with nice extras.

As for difference between 2.4 SR and SRX: mostly cosmetic. Same engine, 6 speed gearbox, etc. Differences are 7 airbags vs 3 airbags, steel rims vs mags, no fog-lights, no radio, seats, other cosmetics.
Basically SR is workhorse with better safety and 6 speed gearbox. Was developed for mining industry that has strict rules regarding this.

Friend of mine has new 2.8 Legend 50 DC manual. Can feel the difference from mine but not much. Might be useful if towing something heavy.

I started this thread when I bought my 2.4 DC 4x4. Loved the motor, its a real gem. Fuel efficient, pulls like a train and there are some motors with well over 200k km on them with out hassles.

Sold mine for a 2.8 Fortuner as my needs had changed, but man I miss my bakkie all the time. Will pay off the Fortuner then get another 2.4. Hopefully by then the extended cab comes in 4x4.

If you get a second hand one still under warranty, you can extend the warranty by 3 years for 7k. The service plan extension is also extendable if the bakkie has less than 90k km on it.

    Thanks Caracal.

Wonder what the new face lift will look like and if it is worth waiting for demo models once launched.

When does the new models normally come out I wonder.
