I have a single cab srx work bakkie that needs new tyres so today I'm putting the new bakkie's tyres on the work bakkie and putting more decent AT tyres on the DC.
I only drove it 3km since I got it on Thursday so hopefully I can get to a piece of gravel sometime soon.

I was thinking (will have to buy new rims) of going down to 16 " so I can have a higher sidewall.

Gearing is low with 17" 265/65 as it is one mine (automatic) already.

Fitted loadbin power supply as well as power supply by the tow hitch. But more important is the sticker.

Hi. What fuel consumption are you guys getting?
Yesterday I got 12.2km/L 70% from highway 30% town driving.
I get average 13.6km/L on my single cab.
Also don't use Engen diesel as it increases fuel consumption by 10 to 20%. See my threaf on Engen diesel is bad

Thank you everyone for the info on the black out kit. A full 9c cheaper than the price provided from Namibia

Makes a huge difference in the look of the vehicle in my opinion

    Very nice

Was it difficult to install. I am not that technical and also would like to do it. Do you have to remove the rubbers ext?

    Thanks Johan

Quite easy to install. No need to remove rubbers, I just flipped the rubbers back carefully (trying not to pinch them) and at the bottom used my Makro card to edge the skirting slightly open so it will go past.

Masking tape works great to keep the other parts of the sticker aligned while you peel it.

If you have a 2nd set of hands to assist it will be easier, but I managed just fine by myself

Can we talk tyre size a bit.

Has anybody changed to a different size when tyres were replaced?

If so what size did you fit?

    Mine has 265x65x17 on.

Should I stay on 17" or will there be any merit in going down to 16" to gain a bit more sidewall height? I dont think I should go to a 265x70x17 as the gearing is already very tall in my opinion.

Are all sizes available in Africa or is it 15" out there?

Somebody said that 16" might not be readily available outside of South Africa as it is a bit of a odd size.

Please let me know what you changed to and were you happy with the result.

    Thanks

    Johan

    Just my 2c Johan,

From an availability perspective I do not think 17" will be a problem. I had a D3 with 255/55R18 tires on it and managed to source Continental Crosscontact (18" so cannot think that 17" tires should be any different) in Botswana on a trip many years ago without any issues. It seems like that 16" and 17" are starting to become the entry level sizes these days. Before long it will be a challenge to find 15"

65 to 70? Not sure if I would go that route (3.3% difference).

Cannot comment on 16" availability. Perhaps look on the official Toyota website of the country you would like to visit what tire sizes they fit on their Hilux's as standard. That should give you a good idea what will be available in those markets?

    Thanks Redman

I was really thinking of going down to 16" with matching sidewall height to bring me back to the same diameter as the 17" combination.

    Are you suggesting 17"x70?

    Johan
