Default Best route from Cape Town to Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in SA

    Hello,

In May I want to make a beautiful route from Cape Town to the NP of Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
I can do the trip very easy. I have about 2 weeks or so. After the NP, I want to enter Namibia.
I have a Toyota HDJ80 fully equipped for overlanding and have experience for 4x4 driving.

    Has anyone some suggestions?
If you have GPS tracks I can use, that would be great.

    Thanks and kind regards,
    Tom (from The Netherlands)

    Hi Tom,

I think you should drive via Wellington, Ceres, Up-the Bergh into Cederberg and exit at Clanwilliams into the N7.
On this stretch you can easily spend 3-4 days, so much to do.

Then Namaqua NP along the coast and touching the boundary of Richtersfeld NP via Steinkopf into Goageb and further to Springbok.
Then Pofadder with a visit to Pella on the Orange river, (or you could also use the 4x4route from the border to Pella) then Upington and North to Twee Rivieren.

You find plenty of attractions on this route, so a week or 10 days will be short.

Check it out and return if you need more details.
    Google helps.

    Hi Tom,

I left Cape town on monday 13/03/17 for Askham, about 80km from Kgalagadi
Travelled via N7 up to Van Rhyns Dorp then right onto R27
Road works about 10km before Klawer, 5 min waiting period
Passed thru Neuiwoudtville, Calvinia, Brandvlei, Kenhard, Keimoes, Uppington
Travel time was 10hrs, All roads tarred and in perfect condition
Unfortunately this was work and had a schedule to maintain
Job completed so I head back to Cape town tomorow
Hope this is of some help

    Enjoy the trip
    Regards
    Noel

Consider going through Ceres to the Taquanta Karoo National Park. From there up the Ganaga Pass via Middle Postnet to Calvin Ian, Brand fort, Ken Hart and Uppington. You may be tempted to detour from Middle Postnet to Sunderland to see the SALT telescope. Something different.

Also consider going to Sutherland from the Tankwa Park via Ouberg Pass and then on to Middelpos and Calvinia. I.m.h.o. Ouberg pass is more scenic than Gannaga Pass (and more challenging)
