Thanks for confirming that! I've been meaning to visit this spot for ages, so I'm quite looking forward to it.

Hi there. Yes you can still go there, and it is still nice Plenty animals, but remember Ithala doesn't have big predators (other than a very healthy leopard population). The campsite is very rustic and you almost have to be self sufficient. It is still unfenced so ellies can and do still walk through the campsite

Leeubok, it might sound a little naive, would Doornkraal pose an excessive risk in terms of the Leopard in the area, i.e. are they pretty habituated that they come into the camp and close to humans regularly or are they shy? We are all pretty bush savvy with Botswana trips under the belt etc.. We have kids with us who are also bush savvy, but they taste better apparently...

I assume during the day we can self-drive around Ithala from Doornkraal, i.e. are not confined to the camp.

Leopard are very shy here. We also have young kids and they're outside every day. Ellies pose more of a threat in my opinion. Having said that, never say never, so keep in mind there are leopards around..

Yes ithala is self drive... I'll pop you a pm now

3 weeks and we are there, cannot wait!
    Update:
Saw on the morning news there's protest action at Louwsburg. Locals have dug trenches across main road (R69). If anyone in the area can give an update on the road being repaired please do.

no problem pulling the braked MiniMet
though can be tricky turning around on the narrow roads.
Was bit rainy so friend pitched Dome
