    Default My Latest Bike Project

    Howzit guys!

So I've been a bit busy doing some work on my new bike..

I decided to sell my little CB125 and purchased a CBX250 Twister. We (me and my twin brother) work on and ride so many bikes, but I just have a small bike for my personal use (shops and back).

Anyway, I got the bike about a month ago and it looked like this...

The list of things to do was ummmm rather long.
Firstly, it had to go through hours and hours AND HOURS of proper cleaning. Especially areas such as in front of the rear wheel (Swingarm and shock), chain, sprockets and covers (years of old chainlube) under the engine, inside the front mudguard, under the seat, etc.
The Front Brake and Clutch levers was severely warped and damaged.
The Forks Seals were shot to hell.
    The speedometer housing was broken
The Topbox Bracket was flimsy and the topbox would bounce up and down while riding.
    It needed a service
Many, many things needed painting (like the exhaust header, footrest brackets, sidecovers, etc.)
    Carburetor was dirty

Anyway that is just to mention a few things...

So here I started tackling this job and getting everything up to a standard which I would be happy with..

Levers..... (check the previous pic for a before shot)

Busy Cleaning up this MESS (It will never be properly clean though as everytime the chain gets lubed, lube is flung off the chain. so it requires constant cleaning.... I doubt its ever been cleaned before)

    Starting to look better

    Replacing the Fork seals

Adding support to the topbox bracket

    Painting footrest brackets

Afterwards I decided that I don't want my shoes to rub up all the paint of the brackets, so I made a plan

    The guage cluster repair...
    Before:

    After:

After this a whole host of other repairs was done.

And then, I decided. I want my bike Matt Blue. So out came the plastidip!

    Well that's it for now

    Hi guys,

So I've been working on the CBX again.

Here's a list of things I have done:

    1) Added a 12V USB charger for my phone (goes into the top-box). It has a male/female connector under the seat so I can unplug the whole charger when not used
    2) Added LED Spotlights with a new switch
    3) Added LED Daytime Running Lights (on the front brake and clutch levers)
    4) Added LED Indicators and a LED flasher unit
    5) Added a gear indicator

Great job and fantastic bikes. My Swambo learned to ride on a CBX 250 and after riding the 22 flat taps I knew she could move up. Hang on to that one, it's a keeper
Lusted for a Landy but the Pajero was sexier and bigger in the right departments, just like my Missus.

Lappies, I purchased it online. Ya, I guess it will work, you can get seperate resistors that you can wire in onto your LED flickers, in order for your stock flicker relay to work with LED flickers. You can get a LED Flicker Unit or LED Flicker Resistors at any bike shop.

OK guys, so here's the DT (dubbed: Lucky Strike) that I've I have done in 3 weeks (after work).

There are a few things that I still need to do, but you will get the idea.... (TO BE FAIR, THE BEFORE PHOTOS MAKE IT LOOK MUCH BETER THAN IT ACTUALLY WAS....)

When I bought her home (jeeeeeez I hated that silver exhaust!!!)
NOTE: I got 2 extra frames with it, the one at the back is complete and only needs wheels and brakes.

    Cleaning:
    Before

    After

New Allenkey Bolts and painted engine covers:

    Swingarm rescued from the dead

    Dead piston replaced

I've done so much here, I don't even know where to start.

The frame, swingarm, gear lever, brake lever and everything else was painted. I added a killswitch from another DT (but had to refurbish that as well first)

The forks was compleeeeeeeeeeeeetely shot to hell!! The seals was the worst that I've ever seen, the rubber tubes over the forks was so torn, they only let mud and dust in, and kept it from being washed off which only worstened the problem. When I opened the forks up, it looked like very thick mud coming out of the fork sliders - I did not notice any oil in there. Everything was properly cleaned and reassemdled with new fork seals and rubber tubes. The fork tubes was also painted silver.

The chain was rescued from the clutches of hell by a proper cleaning and re-oiling, it is actually in a way better condition than anticipated.

The triple clamps was removed cleaned, painted, repacked with grease and bearings and reinstalled. The carb was cleaned 4 times. My reedvalves was leaking air on suction so I modified KDX200 reedvalve plates (some plastic material) to work there.

The seat was recovered. Umm.... by myself.... It look hideous, but that's OK, it still looks better than it was. This is my mountain toy anyway..

That...TERRIBLE looking tank..... YO! I had a good few hours in sanding that thing!!! The paint had cracked. It was 3mm thick, so I had to start with 30 grid sandpaper go get it all smooth then work my way up and up and up through the grids. It was a very long day...

The rear mudguard was ag.... gonners, So I replaced it with the one you see here from a KX250F. I have since replaced it again, with one that fits better and it also looks more OE. But it is not pictured here.
Yeah, it was a busy 3 weeks.....

Haha... You know what, I didn't really think about it that way @meh, but I loved that matt blue when I saw it for the CBX - my previous bike was dipped matt black and I wanted something new. Then, when I started with the DT, I found out that it was originally blue, so I just went for metallic blue..

Come to think of it, Blue has been my favourite colour since I was a little boy.... hmmm
