No prizes for guessing why Ford is not on the list.

It is only North america where the Ranger is not exported to.... potentially direct opposition to the f150. So we know Ford made this decision, and i would guess the nths* whatever didnt have the opportunity to ban it. It was however the first to obtain 5* ncap....

So i'd guess it would stay of the list. *edit*

Wasnt the amarok's failure the lack of curtain airbags?

    Understood,

But you cant assume a Ford biased list, as there is a ford on the list.

It is either one of two reasons why is isnt on there.
    1) Ford isnt considering selling the T6 there, as it could be in contention with their top seller. (this is actual fact)
2)The T6 safety rating is sufficient. (at the time of this video, it was being compared to an outdated hilux, and an amarok which i think has airbags short in some department holding the 5* rating back)

Not an out dated Hilux. Look they show both and that list was created in Oct 2016!

I'm a little lost, wasn't the Ranger T6 the first bakkie to get a 5 star rating? and was that not why it sold so well to the mine fleets etc, and is that not what led to it overtaking the hilux sales figures for single cabs some time ago? so why is its safety being brought to question here?

Secondly, that list just goes to show how silly the yanks can be. Most of those cars were excluded for silly nanny state safety regulation nonsense, but at a time that it was A-Okay to sell mustangs with solid rear axles, leaf springs and rear drum brakes.... sounds a bit silly

I guess there is a difference between an OEM deciding not to sell a vehicle in a country VS a government watchdog body "banning" certain vehicles.

I doubt that the Hilux is banned there. It would make no sense to sell it there because they already have the Tundra, which is better. Same story with Fords.

The Amarok can't be sold there due to stringent regulations that require all vehicles made this century to have an engine cover.

Tacoma, the Tundra is F150 size.

Go have a read. They are banned! Not selected not to be sold but banned. Hilux for both pollution and being unsafe. The unsafe part is quite easy to see just Google moose test. Amarok for safety reasons as XJ mentioned

Surely it cant take the engineers more than 20min to design an engine cover, and send of to injection molding?

I agree you definitely have to cover some engines. Why would you showcase something with less than 8 cylinders.

USA regulations are different. Car makers develop cars for a certain market.
Hilux and Ranger are not developed for USA, thats why they are not sold there.
The 2019 USA Ranger will have to be different to ours to comply to USA regulation.

So its not a case of being banned. They just do not comply to the different requirements.

    OK, I'll bite.
That video sounds iffy. No mention of sources either.
Hilux/Amarok lack of safety features and EPA regulations? Coming from the US? The guys who gave us "Rolling Coal" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolling_coal

    OH PAH-LEASE

Four star safety rating from EURO NCAP:
    http://www.euroncap.com/en/results/vw/amarok/11028

http://www.topspeed.com/trucks/truck...-ar172958.html "...the pickup has never broken into the North American Market. That has the potential to change, but VW isnít likely to spend money on entering the U.S. or Canadian markets with a product that would have a wide range of well-established competitors"

http://www.carscoops.com/2013/12/vw-...ok-pickup.html says "VW's exec revealed that the German carmaker is definitely interested in bringing its Amarok over to the states, but is currently not doing so because of a hefty 25 percent tariff imposed by the US on imported pickup trucks"

That is probably the main reasons. I think the "journalist" has a US product bias.
    (and calling it "HEEELIX" pffft)
