    Default Fortuner V6 consumption

My wife drives the V6 4.0 4x4 and only uses it locally.
Have just filled up and the last tank gave a consumption of 18.5l/100km!!!
Is this normal and what can I do to improve the consumption? I know it's a thirsty car but this seems a bit hectic.
Had it serviced at Halfway Toyota in Dec and they supposedly checked the injectors.
Any one know of good service Centre in the Randburg area.
    Much appreciated

I would guess it is about right. I have just off loaded our Kia Sedona. 3.8v6 and it would also do around 17-22l/100km.
Petrol engines tend to run rich when warming up. They also typically enrich slightly when idling.
I assume your wife does not do high milage and this is just the price you pay for doing short runs to school, hockey and whatever other activities the kids partake in.
Just make peace with it. If you want better consumption just get a small run about

Thanks. Love the car and will be using it soon for a overland through Bots and Caprivi.
Last owners log book averaged about 15l/100.

Using that car as a mom's taxi will give you that consumption. Lots of short trips in stop/go traffic while the car is warming up is pretty much the worst thing for fuel consumption.

If your wife drives that V6 like my Swambo does, that consumption is spot on
Have a look at Fuelly for more stats.

I am sure you knew that this V6 is heavy on fuel before you purchased. 99% of Toyota Hilux/Fortuner sold are Diesel for a reason - price is lower and fuel consumption is very good.

I get about 13.5l/100km or 7.4km/l avrage (worked out at the pump) 8,4km/l shown on the computer with my 2006 v6 Fortuner 2x4 totally standard.

my best worked out at the pumps was 11.36l/100km or 8.8km/l.

My parents is using it for a month now at the coast and towing their Sherpa Tiny caravan, on the way there they got the same as what I do with out towing! (8.4km/l shown on the computer)

Best of all is driving around at the coast they are getting 7.15l/100km (14km/l shown on the computer) staying steady beteen 60 & 80km/h on the coastal roads an not even the highways.

So I strongly believe in how you drive it plays a big role in the consumption.

    Regards
    Jacques

4x2 versus permanent 4x4 cannot really be compared regarding fuel consumption, but that is quite good consumption.

Aaah....the on board computer. That thing is as crazy as that cruise control. Both equilly and blatantly on their own planets. There are two readings for consumption. The one is for the current moment and the other on average. They both lie through that wp tooth gap....😊. Do the calcs on several fillups to get the real picture. But I'm not complaining with 7km/L....the 740 gives 5. I do drive it like a bat outa hell hehe.

I think you're doing just fine.
My boss has a 4.0 V6 Cruiser. Towing an old Land Rover on a trailer from the Lowveld to Limpopo, I got just 2.7km/l
Under really really normal circumstances @ 110, we always try to work around 4.5 to 5km/l, but usually, we are both extremely optimistic.

I'm averaging almost 15l/100km on the dot, mostly around JHB.

You see. There is your mistake. The pleasure of driving a V6, 4.0l Fortuner, you should never work out the fuel consumption.

Thats 37 L/100 km, I would need a Petrol Station in my house. Damn I should stay away from these heavy drinking Petrol Engines.

    1. Don't trust the on-board computer. Work out consumption yourself, and do it over a longer period. Fuelly is excellent software on a smartphone - see my sig.
    2. ALWAYS switch off your car while filling up, else the attendant will NEVER get ahead
    Make it happen!
