    Question When will SA see a new Suzuki Grand Vitara?

    Hi all

    A question for the Suzuki fans.

    The current shape Grand Vitara hasn't changed very much since it's launch in 2008.

    Here's an article from way back when:
    http://www.iol.co.za/motoring/road-t...-vitara-845543

    There was an update in 2012, when the Dune (sans TC) and Summit (18inch wheels) were released.
    Not too much other than an updated grill and a different 5th wheel tyre cover (Dune) was changed.

    Basically, the timeline looks like this:

    2008 -> 2012 (facelift) - 4 years

    2012 -> 2017 currently - 5 years

    If and when are we going to see a new Grand Vitara?

    Speculate amongst yourselves

    Cheers

    I read an article earlier last week, they mention 2019 or so. They might take low range away. They also mention that a new Jimny will be launched 2018, released 2019. It will still carry the rugged offroad ability, that is at least good news.

    That's the one I read.

    My solution. Buy the top of range model before model goes out (last 6 months) or when they announce it, and drive it 10 years instead of 5 years.

    I feel the same way Spike ....hoping they stick to their guns and continue with their niche market....like the jimny, there is a market .... but they need more marketing than just word of mouth.

    Probably a good chunk of the sales are returning clients. Will I buy another Jimny and GV, hell yes!

    I certainly won't - not from Suzuki SA anyway - I'll by a second hand one though. (also not from Suzuki)

    A new GV should be here around 2018/2019.

    Look at the Jeep Cherokee as Suzuki likes to take inspiration from them. I guess that the GV will have a 8/9 speed type box with the first gear being very low but not a proper low range. What I do hope for is that they have the normal drive as 4x2 and select 4x4. And I want a diesel or at least the inverse of my fuel consumption... 6km/l turned into 6l/100km would be great...

    Only makes sense to target a niche market if your product is very expensive.

    If they want to grow, and which corporate doesn't, the next GV will be a softroader with a big screen on the dash.

    Look at the Jimny ...niche market and no other product comes near it, and it must be Suzuki SAs biggest seller. Think the Jeep Renegade was a direct response to try get Jeep into that niche market... but at double the cost, don't think they're going to crack it. 🙄

    At the current new price, I wouldn't buy the Jimny. The starting price is now considerably more than I paid for mine 2 ago completely kitted out, and sent down from Johannesburg. (granted, some of the more expensive kitted out parts are crap quality, and "not meant for the coast").

    In 2014 July they were R199,000 new. Now starting at R256 900.00

    In 2012 I paid R184k for mine new.
    So yes quite a bit more expensive but then something like an Amarok is R500k-R650k
    It's all relative. The Jimny is still the cheapest proper 4x4 you can buy.

    They are awesome. I hope the new one is as good.

    Thing is, they Jimny design hasn't changed in years locally (a new dash isn't really a changes).

    I'll stick to second hand in future At least the increase in price means the older versions hold their prices a bit better.

    That explains the price yes........

    My point being Suzuki would love to have Toyota sales figures, and that you don't get with a niche product.

    Jeep.......ja well hey, 700K for a doublecab

    Yes, but lack of changes doesnt mean something stays the same price. Import costs, building costs, cost of employment with unions, electricity cost and a weakening Rand plus then the % markup from everyone in-between makes the Jimny go from R172000 at launch to R250 000 now.

    You can bet the new one will be R300 000 or maybe more when it lands. It will still probably be cheaper than anything else that's out then.
    Vehicle prices are getting seriously insane, but still people continue to buy, and if they continue to buy new then they will continue to climb in price.
