    Default Stockport border

Greetings All. We will be travelling to Bots beginning April and was wanting to use the Stockpoort border to Nata.
    Two questions
One. How busy is this border?
Two. What's the condition of the dirt Rd after the border and how long will it take to reach the tar Rd again enroute to Mahalapye.

    Very quiet border post.

Dirt road fine but it was a bit rocky in some places in December, it seemed newly graded. We however did not go to stretch to Mahalapye but to Sherwood via Machaneng (spelling) and then to Palapye to stay off the A1 for as long as possible.

We went there in April 2015. The border was fairly busy, but only because Groblersbrug was crazy busy. Maybe it was easter weekend.

The dirt road was about 45km if i remember correctly. The overladen jimny handled it just fine.

What dates are you going? We want to take that same route again in April school holidays.

I'll try to confirm our dates asap. Maybe we bump into each other.

We're planning 1 night stands at Khama, Kukonje, Kubu and maybe Nata if time allows.
We're also a bit scared of travelling alone. So we're asking around to see if anyone else can make a last minute call to come with us.

We used it on the 24th Dec 16, way better than Groblersbrug.

Dont recommend hitting the border early, we arrived around 6am and the que was long, according to the border official there some of the vehicles were there the previous evening and mates who arrived at 5am were far from the front.

Officials recommend after 9am it is far quieter.

Dirt road was ok, better than most in Bots we travelled through in December, just watch the traffic cops on the tar sections.

Hi all, could anyone here give me info on payment method. Do they have card facilities here yet or is it still cash only. Also I believe they Bots had intentions of not accepting rands at the posts anymore, is this the case and if so is it possible to get Pula on the ZA side of the bored near this post?

Just remember Stockpoort closes at 16h00. Bots does not accept ZAR id the forex office is open. Best to get Pula before you leave. It saves time.

Agreed only Pula at Stockpoort. And also agreed, get some Pula before you leave. Easy to order from your bank.

Is there a BURS office there? For example the BURS is not at Dobe and we had to buy the road tax/insurance afterwards in Maun what was a bit hassle.

There is a BURS office yes, the Pula is needed to pay for the road taxes.

Hi Lekhubu943 - any particular reason for avoiding A1 apart from traffic?

Reason not to travel A1 should be applicable for 14th April (Easter weekend and ZCC's will be travelling towards Moria) and stay away from Martins Drift/Grobelaars brug any of the other "main" posts especially where busses will cross.. Zanibar is chop-chop coming back on the 14th.

Guess going in on the 1t April you can use any border post as they won't be too busy.

    Thumbs up Re: Stockport border

I used Stockpoort/Parrs Halt twice this year to go into Botswana. They have a BURS office that takes cards for their fees, although once it was offline. They do an inspection for meat, vegetables and fruit, things you cannot take into Botswana.

The road is good, except at the bridge/intersection with the B2 in Mahalapye where they seem to be rebuilding the bridge over the railway line and you have to take a detour of about 1 km. They seem to regularly grade that road and we travel at 100kph on it quite comfortably.

Coming back to SA, I use Grobblersbridge border post as the coming out of Botswana is painless and quick.

As stated before not on the 14th of April - ZCC! Not even on the 13th, or the 15th through to the 18th.

    Hi all,

We will be crossing from ZA to Bots on 14th April around lunchtime, I am assuming from this exchange that Stockport is the better option?

Is there any way to know better at the time, or is it just a case of trying one and turning around for the other if not?

    Thanks,

    R
