Will they just fix the possible problem or replace the vehicle?

Fix. Re-calls are common but they are not properly published in SA if at all. Different names are also used. For instance Mercedes uses term "Campaign". They are done during service (sometimes without telling you) or you may get a letter to bring the vehicle in.

    OK, well done....!

Now, what is the position wrt those that have burnt out. Will Ford accept responsibility and compensate those who lost? What is to stop insurers from taking Ford on in a class action? They must have lost packets by now...

    Interresting .....

Friend took her Kuga in TWO weeks ago already, after being contacted by her dealer.

As a matter of fact, the one that burnt out last week had already been contacted by his dealer about the recall.

this "news" seems a bit after the fact ....

Whats tragic here is that someone died in one of these vehicles and Ford still denied responsibility. They had to be forced to do a recall.
They stand no chance in hell to defend there actions should the family succeed with the rest of the affected parties with a class action suit.

They must have lost packets by now...
It is reported that a class action against Ford is on the cards.
It will be driven by the Jimmy family.

Personally I have nothing against Ford - just have not owned 1 yet.
Chances of me buying 1 after the way Ford handled this fiasco is rather bleak...

"Earlier today the Jimmy family through their lawyer‚ Rod Montano‚ handed over dozens of complaints from Kuga owners whose vehicles have caught fire to the National Consumer Commission.

The handover is part of the start of a class action against Ford‚ which the family is driving.

The Times today reported that since 2014‚ Ford has known of the Kuga's potentially deadly safety flaw‚ but have done nothing to address the matter.

The company was informed over the past two years by various insurance companies about the flaws through investigations by their forensic investigators.

Jimmy's sister‚ Renisha Jimmy described the announcement as a bitter-sweet victory.

"We have only just won the first leg of the battle with Ford. While we have ensured a recall is done‚ we still have a long fight ahead with Ford‚ which is by no means over.

"We are determined to expose the truth‚ which is that Ford has hidden the fact that their cars burn because of manufacturing faults."

This does not make other Ford products bad, but Ford bashing is in order here, at least Ford Motor Company SA. It's shocking that they have to be ordered to do a recall. They should have done this voluntarily. I certainly would be very hesitant in buying a Ford product after this knowing that support from them is not in good faith.

Ford bashed themselves. The majority platkar driver/buyer that doesn't know cars too well will look funny at the ford brand now.

So with the recall has ford released a full statement including what the issue was?

I just thought they would have had their affairs in order as soon as they were told the recall has to happen and release a statement shortly after, its all over the news and social media now with negativity going rampant. So one would think they want to calm and assure people of the process with a statement.

To be honest the fact that they are still putting allot of effort in to say that person who died is not their fault still does allot of damage.

Even if it is not they have now admited that these cars can catch fire.
Most people will now automatically assume that someone who was burned to death is because of the fault

Ford is not learning from their mistake.

If you cars does somethings and you admit it.
Then be ready to take responsibility if it does that and someone gets hurt or dies

The fact that the fault exists makes that their "fault"
    Not the driver who died
