Default Trip report Liuwa Plains and Kafue November 2016

Recently returned from 2 weeks in Zambia visiting Liuwa Plains and Kafue. Planning our trip I gained lots of very valuable information from this forum. Attached is my trip report which I have split into three parts which hopefully others will find useful.

Need to spend the Christmas holidays planning where to go in 2017.

Thanks for taking the time to report - looks like you had an excellent time. I tend to find that it's cheaper to hire through South Africa and get them to deliver, but it's good to hear that Hemingways are a quality operator.

A couple of questions for you - what dates were you in the parks? and how hot did you find it? Thinking of visiting in a couple of years.

    Many thanks

    John

We arrived in Zambia on 18 Nov and flew back to UK on 2 December.

Was pretty hot in Livingstone at start and end of trip. High 30s I think.

As the rains had come early this year was slightly cooler in both Liuwa plains and Kafue. However pretty hot in the middle of the day sometimes. Having said that lived in shorts and teeshirts for the two weeks and only used the airconditioning on the last day when coming back into Livingstone.

Thanks for a wonderful report. It will come handy in the future as we plan very similar trip in one of the coming years.

We were not lucky enough to see Lady Liuwa. In fact in the two weeks saw no lions at all and only heard them at night in the far distance on one night. First trip for us with no lions which was slightly disappointing but you never know what you will see.

We heard that Lady Liuwa now on her own. Also heard that they have recently brought two lions from Busanga plains to liuwa plains who have recently been released. However did not meet anyone who saw lions whist we were there.

Thanks for an interesting trip report. Maybe next time you can make it to the far north of Kafue-well worth the drive up.

We saw Lady Liuwa with another female and two cubs. Probably around 6 to 10 December 2016. We were lucky to find them. On the other hand, we couldn't find any cheetah. Great park, we will be back.
