Default Everest 2.2 xlt auto or Fotuner 2.4 auto

    Hi Everyone,

My name is Marc, I've been a member for a while but this is my first post!

I'd love to get some comments/advice from all the experts out there on my current predicament. Our family has grown and I am in the process of deciding on purchasing either a new Everest 2.2 XLT auto or Fortuner 2.4 auto (both 4x2).

My wife would be driving the vehicle daily but it would also be our family/holiday vehicle. We've driven both and I think the Everest' ride is smoother and is a nicer place to be , the Fortuner's motor seems more responsive though and comes with rear diff lock (not sure how important this is?). We enjoy camping a doing some off-roading (Bots, Namibia etc), but no serious 4x4ing.

With a few extra's thrown on the Fortuner I can get them for more or less the same price, so I am really undecided.

    Any advice/comment will be welcome.

    Cheers!

Everest has more space and is more refined (quieter, more comfortable)
Fortuner has more performance (it is lighter)
Everest is easier to maneuvre (epas steering) and has a nicer 6th and 7th seat arrangement.
    Fortuner has difflock.
Everest has voice control infotainment system and better warranty.

Drive and look at them and decide what will suit your situation best..

Is there an option to take rear diff lock with the 2.2 Everest? I'm sure it wont be very expensive, maybe R4000?

The Everest is however the better looking vehicle and does not have those ugly looking 6 & 7th seats in the rear.

Phone your insurance company and find out the difference in premium between the two - I'll leave my comments here before I upset Manny

I'm also leaning towards the Everest! No option for rear diff lock, according to the salesman.

Insurance was one of the first things I checked, R 1,496.57 for the Fortuner and R1,572.79 for the Everest. I was expecting the Fortuner to be higher after all the things you hear

The Toyota oposition in most cases seem to be nicer, but the day you want to sell or trade then you regret the decision not to go Toyota. Just my experience.

Those insurance quotes are very, very high for both of the vehicles.

Personally I will rather spend my money on the everest that on the fortuner. That said, I think both is great vehicles and you make a mistake with either.
Phone a few other insurance companies as that rates seems a bit high.

Everest has rear heating and cooling, it has sync 3 system which is far better than the Fortuner system. Drive them back to back on the same route. I am not a fan of the 18 inch wheels, see if you can spec 17 inch...tyres last longer and much cheaper

I am copy and pasting my reply to a previous thread here, this is honestly how I feel...

    -------------------------------------------

You know, I bought my wife a CITIGOLF when she was still a student and Potch. I rebuilt every bolt of that car, and had it for 12 years, I had to look over my shoulder everywhere I go with it. Couldn't go anywhere with it at night, couldn't park it anywhere out of sight.... due to theft.....

    SAME STORY HERE!!!!!!

    NAH.... Life's too short!

Personally, I will not buy any Toyota. And I REALLY like Toyotas! Toyotas are stolen SO MUCH that I am JUST not interested AT ALL..... NO THANX.

    Thats my 2c.

EDIT: I have to add here, The Everest is a MUCH BETTER LOOKING vehicle IMO, but the interior of the Fortuner is absolutely beautiful and gives a much more premium feel than that (plastic) of the Everest (and Ranger).

Why? My family car is a 4x2 Fortuner, we do not need a 4x4 for family holidays, it is horses for courses

Both are great cars, but that Ford 2.2, especially in the Everest (I have only driven a manual) is a bit lazy. The Fortuner drivetrain is definitely better which would sway me in that direction. Oh, and the Toyota is cheaper to insure, which on it's own is evidence enough to not take anything that you read on this forum (or anywhere else on the www) too seriously.

I presume with your frankness and candour you have the statistics that show that this is indeed the case, or is it perhaps perception and urban gossip?

If you make a noise or need music in the bush or on the beach, you’re missing the point.
