    Default Drakensberg Camping in April/May

We would like to camp in the Drakensberg for the long weekend end of April / start of May next year, any advice on typical weather conditions to expect that time of the year? Will it be too cold for camping, we will only be adults? Any campsites to recommend?

    Much appreciated.

Gert, ons kamp in April by Dragon Peaks.

Camping in the Drakensberg? Decisions, decisions!! April generally nice, but take warm clothes/extra blankets for in case. In May the nights are already cold, but the days generally nice for hiking. Mahai is an old favourite; can't go wrong there. However, for me Cobham and Garden Castle take the cake in terms of stunning beauty even from your tent.

    Hi,

From my experience, April/May are a great time to camp in the Drakensberg. Night time can be rather chilly, so be prepared for that.
Lotheni is a great spot, as well as Injisuthi (although I haven't been here for many years - not sure of current conditions). Vergelegen was also pretty nice, but more primitive when I went there. I'm not sure if they've done any work on the place in the past few years.

    Cheers

Always pack for the worst when it comes to mountainous areas. The weather can change in minutes.

March / April always nice cooler weather in the berg , good time in the berg

As said , be prepare for mild to cold evenings , even in December you can expect a chilly evening every now and again as quick weather changes happen frequently
