Default Disco 4 with 18" rims-which is the best tyre for Namibian roads

I will be back in SA for a week from the 12th, to fit my Deriam Engineering spacers and 18" rims. I am having to purchase new tyres for these as well. What would be a good well priced tyre to use for Namibian roads? I don't know if I should go AT or MT. I do know the MT is more puncture resistant. I am looking to go max size (285/65/18) as I run Koos Best's Johnson rods.

I was thinking along the same lines Bartho. I would look at 160 km/ hr rating or less as I will be towing an offroad trailer. My 19's will be for tar use and am running Duratrac's, which have given me a puncture on almost every trip and a bulging sidewall once whilst travelling a major dirt road to from Sossus to Swakop

What about Cooper Zeon's? I have a mate running his GL500 on them and he has done plenty of gravel without incident. It is a fairly aggressive tyre, but still allows you to put foot with confidence.

Cooper ST Maxx or STT Pro. Both VERY puncture resistant and comes in 285/65/18. The ST Maxx wil be the quieter of the two. Pricey in that size though! Duratrac's useless off road!

Friend of mine has Hankook Dynapro on his Disco 4, and he is very happy.

Does mixed driving with it, including trails, towing, dirt and tar roads.

I've run Hankooks on my 19" rims and they were brilliant off-road and on Karoo gravel, but not sure about Namibian gravel.

I am now running BFG AT on my 18" but have yet to go off-road. They are much noisier on-road, especially between 50-80kmh.

More important than the speed rating is the load rating. You can always drive slower, but the load factor will always be an issue.
