Do you get into the water for these types of shots, and, if so, how do you protect your gear?
Thank you Peter, I use a 500mm lense which keeps me dry
These waves were frightening and also awesome, I shot them with a slightly slower shutterspeed and managed to pan with the wave as it moved forward.

Yes, scary as hell watching those walls of water barreling to the shore.

The lovely leaves of the Sour Plum, Harpephyllum caffrum. When dying they turn yellow and red and shades of muave at times.

Unfortunately I have the male, so no fruit.
Too late to try another as mine is over twenty years old.

Very old Ficus natalenses trees, forming part of a hedge which seems to have been planted at an old homestead. The long deserted sandstone walls of the structure are still standing near these figs.

Between Hlabisa an Ezibhayeni, perhaps Wheeler knows the history of the place.

Dry seedpods of the Lagoon Hibiscus, a small tree commonly found fringing lagoons and rivers close to the sea. The flowers are big and yellow with a black centre.

Ficus trichopoda, also know as the Swamp fig. It grows in swamp/ estuarine conditions and anchors itself by airial shoots which eventually becomes roots. It is the only indigenous fig specie that does this.

Riaan, these are called "amanxiwa" isiZulu for homestead ruins. In the olden days homesteaders settled at random all over the land and, when the government organised the lands into communal grazing; farming and village lands, these old homesteads were left behind.
