Thanks Jens - being December, running a restaurant makes those dates impossible! But thank you so much for the invite, and the contact - we live in Richards Bay, so it's just a hop, skip and dust-fart away - May just try the services of Mr Mhlongo at a later date!

Yes I have. It's quite a trek ( not far just steep) down to cave itself, at one place you have to hold on to a steel cable squeezing around a vertical rock face.

OK That does not sound like my territory thank you. Try to avoid clambering around mountain sides as much as possible.

    Hi Riaan,

One day you must go into the Ophathe GR and drive to the highest point overlooking the White Mfolozi. There are spectacular views down the river.

Ian I will thanks. Opathe is not very visitor friendly I have found, one waits at the gate sometimes for a half an hour for someone to wake up and open, they never have change for the entrance permits etc.

I can't understand why Ezemvelo haven't included it in the Wildcard listing. It's an area very dear to me as I spent many school holidays on one of the constituent farms in the "old days".

    Hi Riaan,
So appreciate your pictures of rural Zululand.
i too work in the Mbongolwana area from time to time and could kick myself for not taking my camera along.
keep it up and please the stories too.

Riaan that pool is very deceptive, after walking it my son a few years back drove the defender through it missing his walk path across by approx 400mm and sank the defender door on right side half way passed the door window. Cost him over R90k to get it going again.

I was born in Mangete (near Mandini) and am a 4th generation descendant of John Dunn. His grave is on my uncle's farm in Emoyeni. I will take pics when I am next there. I love being back in KZN having worked out of the province for 10 years.
The pics attached are of a turtle taken on Amatikulu beach last year. First time seeing one so low down the coast!
