My V8 was serviced mostly by Walter at LRXtreme after 100 000km. Every service all oils and filters etc were changed, as far as I remember all the same oils and filters every time. At 120 000km it is advisable to put Dr Tranny and flush the gearbox. At 140 000km I had to replace the water pump again (first done at 93 000km), as well as a water pipe. Brake disks you can expect to have to replace between 120 000 and 140 000km. Somewhere the pollen filter was also changed - can't remember the intervals.

Service intervals used to be 12 000km, but somewhere along the line LR changed service intervals to 28 000km - based on what I am not sure. Due to this change I was not sure whether to change to 28 000 km service intervals for my 2010 model and mailed LR Centurion. They confirmed the change to 28 000km even for my 2010 model. The computer at LRX also changed the interval to 28 000km / 1 year before the service required warning came up, so I decided to stick to 28 000km intervals. The last service I had done was with Peter at Landyworx during the time when Walter was moving to the British 4x4 shop and I couldn't get a spot in his schedule. The Landyworx computer reset the service required interval back to 12 000km. Landyworx also put a sticker on the window showing next service due in 12 000km, so in the end I wasn't sure which way to go - 12 000 or 28 000 km intervals?

    This may help a bit:
Some lessons were hard learnt by the Cape Land Rover Club, some come from the Disco 3 forum in the UK (excellent source of info) and some from personal experience.

    @ 100 000 km:
    - remove CAT
    - blank off EGR’s. But NOT on post-2007 models – will result in a permanent dash alarm
    - replace thermostat housing (aka water manifold) every 100 000km
    - service air suspension compressor – check / replace valves and silica gel or replace compressor with AMK version (AMK requires software upgrade, should come with new housing etc – a mod, not a straight replacement))
    - replace lower control arm bushes
    - check/replace steering arm balljoints or replace steering rack
    - check/replace battery and check alternator
    - check / replace rear diff oil – if contaminated, check / replace rear diff actuator motor
    - replace brake light switch to avoid Christmas tree heartstopping experience!
    - replace turbo inlet hose

    @ 120 000 km:
    - consider turbo service, especially actuator
    - replace turbo inlet hose
    - replace wheel bearings
    - check / overhaul / replace alternator
    - replace water hoses with silicone versions

I would not service 28000km's but every 12000.

The Range Rover is serviced every 12000kms though it is supposed to be serviced every 24000kms - with the mileage (about 40000kms) I do it means 3 services per year.

Now the D3 only does about 8000kms per year and is serviced once a year.

Better to spend money on services than to get a surprise when least expected.

Jip, totally agree. One of the reasons I never felt comfortable with my V8 and eventually sold it is there are so few of them on the road that there is a real scarcity of info on them so you are never 100% sure you are not inadvertently building a time bomb even when you follow LR's directions.

    OK,
I am planning to do an oil change every 12000km, but what gets serviced every 24000km then?
What needs to be replaced at what km reading?
Trying to budget for the big services.

No specifics as such, but I have done / will do:

    12000km
    Oil

    24000km
Filters (Air only as no fuel filter) and also oil.

    80 000km
    Spark plugs i believe

    Every 160 000km
Gearbox double flush (i did mine at 140k km) and will do again at 280k km.

Brakes I check as they go and see how they are doing each service. So far the powerbrake is amazing. After 20k km the discs look still new and the pads are wearing well. I presume to get about 80k km out of them.

I'll try find more info on recommended schedules and what gets done.

Thanks a stack. Was looking at the Powerbrake option over the weekend and the prices seems decent.
Are there anything like a cambelt service that I need to save for?
Will also replace my waterpump at 130k.
Have done the gearbox double flush at 110k

Powerbrake better and cheaper than stock.
V8 has chain, no cambelt, so all good there.

I think i'll do waterpump at next major service. Has already been done at 100k km.

    I regestered here. http://www.roverparts.com
They offer a very detailed schedule in pdf format of what needs to be done on my Disco 2 and when, maybe they have the same kind of schedule for your Disco.

    Wowww thanks a stack.
Looking at 120k service I see they indicate the following:
    Change rear locking differential oil
Change transfer box oil; replace drain and fill plugs and washers

Was not aware the transfer box oil is seperate from the gearbox.

80k km would be really good. If you can achieve that, then it would take away one of the regular expenses on these heavy beasts. It would be interesting to get feedback one day when you have to change the pads.
