Looking at your current Fords you aready know the Everest is the one for you :-)
Get the one with the bells and whistles and buy a set of 5 Wildtrak rims and put some nice all terrains on for your touring and off roading trips.
All cars loose vaue fast and in the end you are buying a car to enjoy now and for quite a few years and not with the intent of selling it soon.
    Enjoy it.

Not sure when the new Pajero Sport is coming out, but well worth a look. I read an article this week where they prefered it over the fortuner.

I'm at the moment in New Zeeland and seen the new Pajero Sport in the streets. I'ts something to look at , looks more advanced than the rest. Don't see many but not much Fortuners as well mostly Rav's and CX 5's.

I was in NZ two weeks ago and we saw more than ten Rangers for every one Hilux on the road and about a third of the Rangers where Wildtraks. We drove 2000 km over 4 days so it was not one specific area only.
The Pajero sport is good value for money and reviewed better than the New Fortuner. The butt is past ugly though and the motor a bit small for our liking. We got a new NX Pajero Exceed 2 months ago before the 2017 Pajero comes out here with a DPF again.
Wife didnt want any car with all the gadgets we needed a second 4wd with 3000kg plus towing capacity
Wife loves the Pajero and I am happy that it stands next to my Wildtrak. They both tow very similar.
Everest was first on my list but they are priced a bit steep here in Oz compared to the other real 4wd wagons and we got the new Pajero for a awesome price .

Is it fair to compare the Fortuner to the Everest as they are not in the same league? Should it not rather be "Prado or Everest"

.........which one of the 2 would you like to have in your garage...........3 years and 100 000 km down the line??

After doing gravel, towing, open road, maybe a nice overlanding trip or 2?

Which one do you expect will have the least rattles, hassles, headaches and loss in value??

I dunno either........I suspect, but dunno.

In poker terms, you need a "kicker" to decide this.
A big kicker for me is the quality of the nearest or preferred \ available service center.
A brand's service quality overall might be bad, but the service station close to you might just be that one always going to extra mile.

If that's not a kicker, all that's left is cost really.

I dunno about the new Toy , but I can honestly say the Ranger surprised me with the only rattles being the loose objects in the car. And I regularly drive some bad roads with a lot of gravel mixed in. Currently at 125000 and my aim is 180000km rattle free then I know the built quality can compare to the hardbody.

I see the Ausies actually went and did the comparison to see if above was justified: http://www.caradvice.com.au/406863/f...arison-review/

    .
That test was between a Everest and a Prado (which is totally different to a Fortuner!)

According to the test, the Everest won, so it would have beaten the Fortuner as well.

Who's going to use the second row of seats?

I found that sitting in the back of the new Fortuner the forward slanting C-pillar greatly impeded on my outside view. Sitting in the back and looking left or right I only saw the C-pillar. The roof is also lower than expected, my hair actually touched the roof lining ( no I do not have a Mohawk and I'm only 1.81 tall)

I had no such issues with the Everest.

My hardbody had over 180000km without a rattle. It was my first diesel so I still drove the crap out of it. It drove many bad roads daily and no rattles even after all the abuse. So as regards to build quality the hardbody is still IMHO the one to beat. So the day my ranger reaches the same milestones it will become the new benchmark.
