Default Roof cracks from aftermarket roof rack?

    Hi guys.

I'm about to get a Frontrunner roof rack for my 2001 4-door RAV4 (Japanese import) but was cautioned by the fitters that they have had issues with cracks appearing on the roof on a FEW import vehicles that they have fitted racks to. They say the racks weren't overloaded and that only a few instances of such happened, which doesn't mean it will happen to the RAV, nor does it mean it won't happen, but they were kind enough to tell me about it.

Has anyone else had such a thing happen or heard of such instances happening to others? I've seen those small Pajero IO's with racks and even tents on top and they seemed to be fine.
My intent is to have 2 jerry cans, gas bottle, a couple of camping chairs, small table and perhaps wood (when necesary) loaded onto the rack. I'll stay away from a RTT though because of the weight issues.

If anyone has any info on the matter, I'd appreciate any and all input before I go ahead with the rack purchase and fitment.

    Thanks all!

I would call Frontrunner for advice. They will tell you the maximum moving weight for your car on their racks and they may know about problems with imports.
