Default Limp mode not going off! 2008 xenon 3.0

Soooo embarked on my maiden voyage yesterday from Cpt to hermanus, all seemed to go well.. today after driving for 30mins the water / diesel light came on indicating water detected in diesel. I pulled over, drained and limped along - eventually it went out and motor picked up.

About an hour later it returned and once again went away.. the 3rd time it stayed on for 4 hours driving, despite bleeding the filter numerous times, removing battery, draining 300ml from tank on a level road in case it was pulling it up from there.. checked all connections on pump..

What can I do? Just spent 6 hours driving 120km

    Thanks!

what should I install one? or change filter? ive drained the filter a few times and the tank - why is it still on? maybe water is trapped in the pump or something?

Sounds like muck somewhere. Maybe time for a proper cleanout. Tank, fuel lines.

But the watertrap and a proper filter, 1micron and under. Water won't get through. It just cloggs.

So, watertrap, then OEM, the super fine filter.

If you don't keep that water out, it will wreck the whole fueling system.

im reading sth about the sedimenter switch being faulty, can anyone tell me where this is? Is it possibly attached to the pump, there are 2 elec plugs going into it.. I will change the diesel filter and drain tank into a container and leave overnight..

what about running an additive that will clean out the water? as mention ive already checked the diesel coming thru pump using the primer bulb - looks perfectly clean to me..

Also - according to this diagram the sedimenter is what I thought was my filter, and I dont have the filter.. so should I add the filter as well?

My lines go thru sedimenter straight to the pump - how important is having both?

I suggest you add a filter on that hydraulic system as well. Why none of them have filters, rattles my brain.

Are u referring to the steering? There is a filter,it sits in the filler housing, which oddly is position on the diagonal opposite side of the engine bay with steel lines running around the bottom of the block

Anyway I was removing the PS pulley today and the darn housing cracked lightly and the ATF started running out - Will see if i can have it welded 2moro or something

Driving without ps is always fun

That Xenon is becoming a money pit.

I've bought a Blueteeth dongle now to try and read my ECU codes: I get a MIL and limp mode for no reason and I suspect voltage issues.

Hmm thats no good - well so far im 30 in and very happy, maybe another 3 grand to repaint and add some small things..

My light has stayed off.. I have read the switch can fail and im pretty sure it sits on the diesel pump - the more i learn the more I appreciate the simplicity -well no engine light for me.. motor is only on 30k anyway just put in fresh Shell Helix oil and ran engine flush before to remove deposits -

At last I have a proper bakkie I can fit into - also nice being higher than most other guys - I love the height on these, really awesome Just a hard ride sheesh

Where are you getting all the info? I did a google a while back and apart from 1 x Indian forum there was very little info.

ja it was some indian forum - cant remember, spoke to a tata mech today and he said the sedimenter / water puckup actually sits at the back by the tank above the axle - and they are like a grand each - he said to check connections and drain it..

Might take mine out just now and see what it looks like - maybe soak in diesel injector cleaner and see what its made of.. I thought the sedimenter was the filter with screw plug at the bottom - anyway will see..

lucky no engine light my side - i broke injector clips and one kept popping off, on my 3rd cable tie attempt it seems to be holding finally -

Ok so just located my sedimenter.. unclip the elec switch and drain (it helps to pop off hoses in front filter since all the diesel is draining out) - mine was full of rusty brown water!

I mixed diesel with diesel injector cleaner (it emulsifies water) and shook it vigorously for 5 minutes to pick up all the wate droplets, then let it settle for 5 mins in the upright position - (it takes about a minute for water to settle).. then let it drain again (also in the upright position).

I repeated this and drained second batch into an empty glass jar - I saw a TINY amount of water drops in the mix, but so tiny I was happy..

I guess u could leave it in the sun for a day to dry out completely but im happy so put it back together -

Light was off and hasnt blinked once - will report back if it does..

    Still OK?

And maybe you and I should have a look at removing or blanking the EGR.

Mines already blanked off, cant tell much difference cos I drove it like this from day 1 - after removing the valve cover though I saw ALOT of soot where the egr enters.. so im happy with it off.. The tech at Tata brackenfell said its fine to blank off.. havent done a fuel consumption check yet - maybe once I get paid

is your egr connected? Im sure once u look at the mess it puts inside the top of the motor itll be enough to convince u - plus mines only got 30k on the clock and still its messy, cant imagine nearing 100k!

made aluminium plate and drilled the holes for bolts, top and bottom.. I basically took apart the whole egr hose and measured up.. one is on the block and another on the intake..
