Default ZF now doing repairs on Mercedes-Benz and Jeep 5G-Tronic and 7G-tronic transmissions

ZF has great news for all 4x4community members!

ZF South Africa has expanded it`s repair product range with it`s first non-ZF product, we are now service ready to remanufacture the 5G-Tronic(722.6) and the 7G-Tronic(722.9) Mercedes-Benz transmissions which are commonly found in selected Jeep and Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
ZF SA Jhb has remanufactured a substantial amount of Jeep Grand Cherokee and Mercedes-Benz C, E, and S-class transmissions successfully and are now equipped to do proper diagnostics and programming on the Mercedes transmission range. ZF Durban and Cape Town branches to follow soon. For more information please feel free to contact us.

I assume this includes the WA580/W5A580/NAG1 as found in the diesel Jeep Grand Cherokee WK/Commander XK models?

Great! It would be even better if you tell me you can do the fluid change as per normal servicing schedule. MB keep on telling me my ML doesn't need it but I can feel the gearbox isn't as happy as it should be.

DIY or get an indy to do it? No reason to care what MB's opinion is on a 9-year-old vehicle.

I have investigated the possibilities. You cannot DIY, it is not just a simple drain of the gearbox pan followed by a refill. The whole system, including the torque converter must be rid of all old fluid. There is some specialised equipment involved in doing this and I don't trust most indy workshops to have this but somehow I think ZF should.

    Hi HeavyG

Yes indeed we do the WA580/W5A580/NAG1, attached is a picture of Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD where we have done the transmission for this vehicle.

ZF Jhb is equipped with the correct machines (diagnostic and flushing equipment) to do the job. You are correct about it not being straight forward, it takes the correct equipment to do it correct.
Please see the attached pictures of our diagnostic- and flushing machine.
We are also able to do programming on the 7G-Tronic transmissions.

According to Mercedes some transmissions (7G-Tronic) is filled for life but Mercedes recommends that the transmission fluid be serviced every 60 000km or 3 years, whichever comes first (naturally depending on driving/ambient conditions, towing etc).
The price for a service on the 5G-tronic will be R4000 + VAT

Hi Nico, the fluid has been changed twice on my vehicle but because it only has 130 000KM on the odo they won't do the change for another 50 000KM (So they say). This simply will not do. The last time they changed the fluid was on 90 000KM so they want it to go 90 000Km on the current oil when I can already feel it becoming jerky after 40 000KM meaning the previous interval of 45 000KM they used was spot on.

This is a 7g-Tronic box, does that change the cost? Also, how long would the service take to perform? Do I arrange for someone to pick me up as I live in Fourways?
