I hope it will be affordable, but knowing mercedes chances are, it will be the most expensive one.

    I foresee three versions:

Workhorses, with 2l petrol or 2.1l diesels in 4x2 and 4x4, Single and Double Cab, basic specs

mid Range, with 2.0l petrol or 2.1l diesel and pretty decent spec

King of the Hill, automatic everything with 3.0l V6 Diesel

Given the runaway sales success of softer, car-like, slightly higher priced D/Cab pick ups from Germany I am not surprised that Mercedes Benz wants a piece of the action.

Good move Merc. This is going to be your best move since launching the hugely popular R-Class...

A bakkie with low profile tyres, at last! Why have nobody thought of that?

Indeed, but concept cars are almost exclusively shod in low profiles. Production versions are always equipped more sensibly.

From the pics on News24, that off road bakkie is really ugly. Does anyone have any idea why the tailgate should have holes in it? And those rails on the loadbox walls - the mind boggles...

According to this article, production is due to begin next year. That puts them beyond the concept stage - the factory should already be tooling up for production.
