That looks like a good buy & in good condition.

Hi,
So I'm not at all experienced in buying cars, but this Rav 4 seems like an excellent deal:

I don't know much about mechanics - but I know that the D4D generally has an excellent rep. Is there any reason why the 2.2 should be any less reliable than the 3.0? What would be valid concerns in considering the purchase of this car?
Quick details:
Rav 4 D-4D (VX) engine
2200cc
2006
86881km on clock
Diesel
Manual
Thanks,
John

Thats way too cheap. Wonder whats the catch?
Its not about how fast you are but about how quick you get there...
Looks in good nick with that mileage, but then it's a Toyota.
You can't go wrong with this one.
Consider what you want to use it for and if it fits into the spec's bracket - if "yes" then go for it.

I agree. You can't go wrong with Toyota.

Two things to look at. Is it a coastal car? Have a look at the exhaust where it passes the rear diff, it goes under the diff if it is battered then the car may have done some off road work.

Thanks all! will look under Diff. Phoned in, it seems there's a lot of interest and they'll sell to the first person with finance approved. will let you know outcome.

Beware of scams...
Had it before when replying to an ad. The so-called salesman told me to transfer a deposit quickly, bank details, finance applications etc all sent through to me from a G-mail account. Same story, the first person that can finance the vehicle gets it. But If I pay the deposit he can consider it sold. It was an amazing car really...everything I asked the salesman about, the car had it! Lots of interest!
I googled the details & decided to go to the dealership then do the EFT at the premises if I liked what I saw. On my way there I got a call & was asked if I paid the deposit already, so I said no i'm coming to pay at the dealership. I was then told how many people are after this car, and people are taking it for testdrives etc, its going to be sold very quick, I must hurry with the deposit! Amazingly the vehicle was then sold to another buyer as we spoke when I insisted on paying only once there.
Nevertheless arrived at the advertised dealership / address. The "salesman" is well known for using their legit dealership details for his false adds. Various people paid deposits or transferred funds to purchase vehicles & arrived at their door.
If it sounds to good to be true...
If its not a scam, beware of the first RAV D4D's in any case. The first 2.2 D4D's suffred badly from cylinder head gasket failures due to wrongly engineered cylinder head bolts (too short). Toyota replaced many under guarentee in RAV's and Avensis. Try to check the history. The engine might be a problem child.
There is never a right time to do the wrong thing and never a wrong time to do the right thing!
Its on the dealerships website as well, i just checked. Give them a call and chat to a salesperson about the car. Otherwise it looks legit.
Besides, its at a MAZDA dealership so i am pretty sure its genuine mileage.

Call Toyota with the VIN number and get the history. They will tell you when last service was done. So you can verify mileage that way

Hi All thanks for the feedback. Did all research, full service history with a dealer, very clean. Sorted finance, all was a 'go' then got called-apparently they'd taken a down payment last week but the buyer felt unsure about the finance but has now got finance so they are selling to him. Seems incorrect since we had got finance, they had all my info-only waiting for collection....but there we go.
Good day.
I am also interested in buying a 2007 Toyota 2.2 Diesel RAV VX with 190 000 km,s for R105,000 as is
. I understand that they have steering rack and Injector problems. Is there any truth in that?
Are there any other known engine problems with them?
