Thanks for all the comments and advice. I ended up doing the turbo upgrade through Stallion Turbos. They took a little longer due to some miscommunication but their work is solid. I ended up fitting a new radiator along with the upgraded turbo and the difference is phenominal!! Took the old lady to Kosi bay and Bhanga Nek and she performed beautifully. The turbo really makes a massive difference for that extra bit of power needed in soft sand at lower RPMs.

At Kosi she did burst the oil cooling pipe (the one with the crimped piece of steel) but theres a guy in Manguzi (Andre) who's shop quickly sorted me out.

All in all = turbo was definitely my money's worth!
    What did the turbo cost?

I paid R6000 including VAT. Took the turbo with the manifold for them and received the entire setup cleaned, upgraded and sprayed with some sort of coating.

The coating must be that stuff herr Bosch talks about
i had mine done by stallion but no coating around 3 years ago for 4500 so u must have hade the same inards changed as mine

agree it made a difference as well

    to add
the turbo herr Bosch is talking about is a 15 or 20 k thing and if u impressed with this increase in driveability then that turbo - i saw his - a lump about the size of the QE2 should blow your socks off

Good investment! Fitting a bigger intercooler with this upgraded turbo, will that give even better performance? If so , where to fit and at what cost?

i fitted the bigger intercooler first - about a year before my stallion turbo upgrade -
and the bigger intercooler had more effect by far than the turbo upgrade

i did the turbo upgrade purely cause I had dxcess money at that point and not cause thd old turbo was sub standard

    Hi Ross

did you further tweak the injector pump, once the hybrid turbo was fitted? The hybrid turbo gives you loads of low down torque, if the pump is properly set up and the bigger intercooler lowers the EGT.

There are a few tricks to get the 300Tdi to really kick ass below 2300rpm

Are these Allisport intercoolers freely available or only from specific suppliers? Am I correct in assuming that the turbo will help more with lowdown power?

    Koos

My impression was that the intercooler gave me low down grunt - 1200 rpm , so what was available at say 1600 is now at 1200 or max 1300 rpm , as well as breathing easier above 2700

The turbo I think gave me far more in the 2500 plus range in that overtaking trucks etc has been halved so no need to do a detailed plan for the manouver

In the beginning I used to catch myself after the overtaking manouver reaching to switch the aircon back on only to realise it was on all the time
