    Default 2000 LC 105 GX 4.5EFI Service

Took my 2000 LC 105 GX 4.5EFI in for a 160000k service this morning. I said check EVERYTHING. We are doing the "Faces of the Namib" tour in Desember.
The only thing I noticed was a very small leak at the transfer case.
Got the phone call a bit later.
(hope I am saying this correctly) Main engine seal leaking - must replace and while it is open do the clutch and bearing - R18 500.00
Front knuckles leaking - replace seals - R6670.00
Rear brake pads + handbrake shoes - replace - 4590.00
    Sumps - reseal - 3400.00
    Transfer case - replace seal - R1350.00
    Normal major service - R 11500.00
    Total: R 46000.00

I told them to go ahead, but:
Is it necessary to do all of this to be on the safe side? The so called leaks must be very minor, as my paving is clean of any oil (accept for the transfer case)
The vehicle is also 16 years old, so is it time anyway to have this done?

Eina. I wouldn't spend that money. If there is no problem with the clutch, leave it be. They saw you coming.

Thanx Henris, I think so to.

Phoned them back and said: do the service, transfer case leak and brakes only.

    What Henris said.....

And as I said. Let them do the service. Then take it to N1 4x4 that specialises in cruisers. And let them look at the rest.

The sweating at the knuckles is fairly normal.

If it is not dripping oil, it can wait.

That clutch is as tough as nails. If it feels good, it is good. I have the same size clutch in the Troopie and it is still fine, at 280,000km.

What you could do, is to replace all the fluids, if they were not done in the last 40,000km.

How is a major service R11k? 160k km service on FJ is R4k, inclusive all diff fluids etc.

At 160000km you're crazy to go anywhere near a dealer . There are PLENTY good indies who will see you right for MUCH less money . I go to a dealer when there is no other alternative & that is not very often

Flip I have had 3 Cruisers over the years and had my share of problems and wear and tear items. I would have all the things attended to that you mention, maybe just use a reliable indy instead a a dealer.

Cruisers, as most big tough 4x4's are not cheap to maintain and at times big money needs to be spent to keep it going for some time to come.

In my opinion any leak or sweat should be attended to. But then I am a bit anal about vehicle maintenance

My thought exactly. R11k is WAY too much.

N1 4x4 don't always use genuine parts. Go to Ralph at Toyo Service Centre in Krugersdorp, 011 660 8834.

The whole Genuine part thing is a fallacy. They use OEM parts. Even the dealers.

Perhaps but the rear propshaft oil seal on the transfercase from N1 4x4 leaked more than the old one and the one from Toyota not a drop after 4 years. Their manual locking hubs that look like Aisin, even gold in colour, will cost me R8.9k while Aisin is close to R20k. Will you be as comfortable with them as with originals? I really would like to know as the first time the auto hubs break I will fit manual.

Also compare an OEM dieselfilter with a Fram or GUD and see the difference. Guess from below the original can be recognised.
