    Default Prepping a 240 000 Km Mitsubishi Colt 2001 2.8D (N/A) for Namibia

Hi guys, I am prepping my Colt for a trip through the West Coast of South Africa, Cape Town, along the minefields entering at Skaapvlei to Alexander bay and crossing at Senderlingsdrift, Aus Luderizts up to and including Skeleton coast as far as Terrance Bay.

For prepping the bakkie, I went through my long and thorough service history of the bakkie, making a list of things that needs to be checked out before the trip, the bakkie is going to be exposed to pretty harsh (dusty, hot, sandy) conditions. I noticed certain things.

V belts 3 have not ever been replaced, can that be? Not mentioned anywhere 240 000km, loads of remarks being checked at every service.

    Water pump not replaced.

Rubber hoses for radiators never replaced.

I need an opinion on these, for a trip like this I would not enjoy being stranded in the desert. Nowhere can I find information on these items, when replacement is due, as a safety precaution...could anybody give me advice on these items.

Also any other items I should look at...

    What is done so far...

    Diff oils

    Gearbox oil

    Transfer case oil

    Injectors checked and serviced

Diesel Pump calibration on Dyno (pump not removed, no seal replaced, MUST THIS BE done also)

    New shocks

    Suspension greased

    New Filter/oil

    New Air Filter plus spare

    New Diesel Filter

Any other advice, tips and tricks would be appreciated. They say the trips you remember the best is the ones that gives you the most trouble (I appreciate that) , but in this case I cannot fiddle on a vehicle in desert heat...with no tree in sight...as painless as possible ... (what a lazy basta--)

My advice is use it as a daily drive for at least a month before you leave if the vehicle has been standing.

Belts and water pipes would be a good idea based on their history.

For the price of those belts, I would replace as a preventative measure.
Lusted for a Landy but the Pajero was sexier and bigger in the right departments, just like my Missus.

Check the bearing of the small pulley on the aircon belt. The one that adjusts the belt.

When you take off the old belts, don't through them away, keep them in the toolbox for an emergency. Also take some extra oil and coolant with you to top up just in case.

That tensioner pulley on the aircon belt has a replaceable bearing. It is held in with a circlip.
You should be able to get the bearing from your local spares shop or bearing place.

Its a hell of lot cheaper that buying the full pulley from the stealers

That little bearing almost ruined my friends holiday. The thing seized on the pulley. First they could not vet it off and then could not find a replacement bearing.

I am beginning to hear mine at the moment.........
