Default Grand vitara 3.2 engine light

    Good day.

My 3.2 is currently on 98200km and the yellow engine light came on. It is a constant yellow. Just want to know if anyone had a simular issue or maybe has a clue as what it may be? Suzuki is asking R980 to put it on the computer to check the code.

    Anyone had simular?

Sometimes taking the battery terminal off for 30 seconds will reset the light. If it comes on again then its best to have the comper plugged in as an engine light can be one of many things.

It would most likely be the oxygen censor on the catalytic converter, I would rather remove the cat and just put a cat fooler in but it is not always guaranteed that the light will go away. Some vehicles do differ or so I have heard. I did it on my Daihatsu Terios and have had no issues.

There are many causes. Could be a dirty throttle body, oxy sensor, etc.

Is there any other symptom on the your GV?

What would the reason be for clogging? Not driving it hard?

Buy yourself a cheap OBD scan tool :

    https://www.zasttra.com/collections/...id-and-Symbian R290

Buy the torque app for R50

read the code yourself, and reset it from the app if possible

then use the obd tool to log your trips and learn new stuff about your GV

You weren't having battery problems recently? I had a similar problem after my battery died. Light stayed on for 3 days with high distance driving and then went off. Not on a GV

is the car acting "normal" or has it had any symptoms develop?
If you were in the area you could have borrowed my obd scanner.
R980 just to have the car scanned is just plain terrible.

Good morning. Thank you very much for all the replies and ideas. Went to Suzuki Garage yesterday to find out more but decided not to put cat on computer as it daylight robbery for that amount just to check engine light. Also ended up in a fight as a few problems that never was attended since the first 35000km service.

Look at the photo of the accesories drive belt, on the schedule it should have been replaced on 90000km but now they use another schedule that's over rules the service book. Yet they do not even inform me that the drive belt is busy splitting in two. I'm my eyes it's highly worn. That for a GV that's driven in town very gently by SWAMBO 99.5%.

I'm going to take off the battery terminal after work today to see if the code goes away.

    Thank you very much

Sorry for recalling an old thread...my 2012 2.4 GV has the same problem.
Had it tested, apparently my problem is the o2 sensor.

Has anyone also had the same issue since?
Suzuki quoted R4800 to replace sensor

Obviously when trying to sell the car, not many are interested if the engine light is constantly on.
Have tried to reset, but the light just comes on again after a few starts.

Take the sensor out and clean it with electrical contact cleaner. Do so with the connectors as well and check the wires for damage.

Try zookspares on FB - they had a crashed 2.4 GV - perhaps they have a second hand O2 Sensor at a reasonable price for you.

I have had two GV 3.2. Both needed a throttle body replacement at around 100,000km. The engine light kept coming on, even after a reset. No symptoms during normal driving. The new throttle body has a different part number, so quite clearly the manufacturer is aware of the problem.
Since the replacement I have had absolutely no issues with both cars. One has 275,000km the other is over 300,000 km. Trouble free. Pity the V6 is discontinued. I now own a FJ cruiser also. I need the power to tow a boat.

    You're a lucky guy, all those V6s .

If anybody does need to go down this route - I replaced my TB with this one from Amazon, even though on the web site it says it does not fit the GV - it does, mine has been installed for over a year and going great:

    Bosch Automotive F00H600074 Throttle Body

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It comes in at under R3k including shipping and import costs, even at todays exchange rate, which is great value for money, and plenty cheaper than the TB you will order from Suzuki.

I had never heard of a 2.4 needing the throttle body replaced, the 3.2 on the other hand I think all of us have had to replace it after 100 000 km
