Default Vehicle mounts for Android/iPhones being used as GPS

Any recommendations on air vent mounts and other types for using your phone as a GPS.

Are the air vent mounts secure enough for 4x4 on rough roads etc.

Most I have seen look very cheaply made.

I bought a magnetic mount for my iphone 5 from 4x4 Megaworld. If I remember, I paid R99.

The magnet is about the size of a R5 coin and is about 4mm thick. This gets stuck somewhere on the dash. On my T6 it fits nicely to the left of the right hand centre air vent. The metal plate that you stick to the back of the phone is about 1mm thick. I was also worried how it will hold on gravel and 4x4 trails, but experienced no problems so far. Used it for a couple of years now.

I also have the magnetic one that you stick on. This holds my 7-inch tablet or my Note 4.

I have been using one of these for about a year now. Really works a charm.
Not very cheap but well made.

I had a really nice big suction cup mount which I felt comfortable with using with my phone. It worked really well, but then like all of these things, the sun hammered it that the cup's holder broke. I honestly don't believe that the manufacturer's name matters with the stuff we get here, they all come from the same pool.

This thing, mentioned on mybroadband this morning looks like something that I would drop the R119 on

The only thing that worries me a bit is the design on the Ranger's air vents - they only point down.

I had a car vent mount once - let's just say I would rather battle with suction cups ..........................

Edit: Which by the way worked extremely well on a 5 week overland trip - both with a GPS and phone.

I have at least one of these in all my cars. A bit pricey but been on rough roads without any issues with my 8" tablet I use as GPS.

    Looks very good but expensive.

    I like the telescopic arm....

I got one of these, after recommendation by Viva!. It's able to take quite large phones, and automatically secures the phone as you put it into the dock (securing clamps are spring powered). Secures well onto the windscreen (has survived Atlantis, Matroosberg and Honingklip without ever coming off or dropping my phone). Very happy with it, would buy again in the future.

I found this nearly new Tom Tom version at Cars Crusaders for about R90, see it's on sale for R170. Good quality http://www.firstshop.co.za/tomtom-ai...b00125-p-16382

+1 on the Onetto from Takealot. Never had it come of on any bad road and the telescopic arm is a bonus.
