Default Johannesburg South - Alberton -Alrode

Any members here who live in Alberton? I have a job interview on Monday for a company there in Alrode and just needed some advise in regards to Alberton. How safe is it there?

I did look on the internet for rental prices for 1 bedroom appartments and the prices vary from cheap to expensive. So no issues for me to get cheap accommodation. Will post again after the interview if it was successfull to find out if anybody know of cheap flats to rent.

Gasman, Monday will only be a telephonic interview for now. If they like what they hear then I geuss I'll either have to do a skype or face-2-face interview.

Sweeper, I actually hate Gauteng and any big city/Metropole. If I had my will I'll be on a farm, bush or mountains and you'll never see me....

I've been in Alberton now 17 years from Durban. At first we lived in Halfway House, but the traffic on the Ben Schoeman killed us. I like Alberton and there is a couple of Forum members around here. Good luck with the interview. If you need to come up for a further interview, we have a spare bed and I'm 3 min from Alrode. Let us know.

Firstly, good luck with the interview.

I work in Wadeville, close to Alberton, and recently looked at property in Verwoerd Park in Alberton. Nice properties and as safe as any other suburb in JHB. Crime occurs as much in one place as it does in another.

I couldn't find anything in my budget in Verwoerd Park and am now moving back to Elspark (lived there long ago) to be closer to work. The 80km per day travel is killing me.

I have lived in Norkem Park now for 11 years and only had my garden hose stolen twice from the front of the yard. That's it. Norkem is 4km from Tembisa. I wouldn't worry too much about crime but more on nailing the interview!

Kaydee, I'm not worried about the interview, I know I will ace it. I'm just thinking ahead and planning the move already

I lived in Alberton (Randhart) for seven years and the only crime we experienced was when my brother's car radio was stolen. The Klipriviersberge next to Meyersdal are simply beautiful, but I guess it's pretty much built up now with luxury housing. Suikerbosrand is close by and lovely especially for hiking. Gauteng has beautiful nature, you just need to know where to look.

I was just thinking while chatting with the East London 4x4 comminity guys on their EL 4x4 whatsapp group.

Do you guys in the Alberton area also have a 4x4Communuty whatsapp chat group? Its a lot quicker and easier to orgenize a group outing as well as contacting someone if your stuck or broken down. Works a charm here in EL. If you guys do have such a group and I do manage to land that job, you can add me as well please.

Have a look at Meyerton. Around 35km from Alberton. Been here for almost 20 years now. Close enough, but far enough.
I have a nice view over Suikerbos Rand koppies, very relaxing after a days hard graft.

Best of luck with the interview

As far as I know there's nothing going. There's a couple of guys in the South here. We should consider getting one going and organize some outings and GTG. The guys here are a bit slow or shy. I've tried once or twice, but no go. Maybe once the weather warms up a bit.

V8 Paul, no way I will be commuting anything over 5 - 10 km per day. Currently I commute 40km one way....!

I want to stay as close to my work as possible but not to far from a grocery store.

Mayberry Park is right next to Alrode and has some quaint smaller places. I'm sure there are many garden flats to rent in Brackenhurst and Brackendowns.
