Unhappy I Drowned My Disco 3

Jip, I managed to drown my Discovery 3 on Saturday, on my blooming Birthday noggals!

Me and a few mates went to play in a popular vlei close to my house. Disco chowed the mud like a machine.. (small puddles)

There was another group having allot of fun! They were gathered around a mud hole, we made our way down to them to investigate. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by friendly faces and explained to that they have been coming here for years and never have they seen a vehicle make it through here.

    Interesting I thought to myself..

The water was muddy, so I could not gauge the depth.. Took a long stick, poked around a bit and gathered that in terms of depth my Disco can handle this with the Snorkel and mud terrains. I also checked with the guys there if they would be willing and capable of doing a recovery should I get stuck. Yes off course the Jeep group replied!

Approach was very very slow. My plan was to eeeeese in and then POWER!!! So, Low Range , Off Road Suspension Hight, Mud Rut selection done. Ok here I go, easy in and power on! My oh my... This is clay and the Disco sinks away like no business... Did not see that one coming.. Right, easy on the throttle in reverse... Nope.. Not really doing much... Lets get creative.. Switch of DSC, Select Manual Shift, 3rd gear and POWER!! Ok movement we getting there.. By know the water is over the bonnet and touching the side windows... Water is slowly coming in... aahhh there it is.. Panic mode! DSC back on, Auto, Forward and back forward and back... Rocking and moving the water with me in a backward and forward motion.. Building momentum..

By pure dumb luck I managed to get to the other side but not out of the hole.. Just got the nose out, back was still in the hole (water) because numb nuts (me) forgot to take of the tow bar which is know a anchor.

Recovery went quickly, Jeep pulled me out... Parked the Disco, and received some High Fives for entertaining the crowd.. I proceeded to open all of the doors and the boot to let the water out.. Figures the water take on.. I was in the water for a very long time so it only makes sense...

Drove home, enjoyed the rest of my B Day with friends. Nothing to report on the Disco.

Woke up the next morning, started the Disco and the dash lit up like a Christmas tree! Gearbox, Suspension, Handbrake and all sorts of errors.. Drove it, humming sound from diff... mmmm this cant be good..

So on the flat bed and off to Ian at Landy Worx..

    Damage:

Gearbox Filter, Oil and double flush needed.
Transfer box, oil and flush needed.
Air suspension control module needs to be removed and treated so that no corrosion takes place (wet)
Transfer control module needs to be removed and treated so that no corrosion takes place (wet)
Break Calipers are damaged. (trying to service / salvage)
Suspension needs to be re torqued.
Left Rear Bellow on the suspension needs to be replaced.

I have just given Ian the go ahead after providing me with the quote. (great service as usual)

Lets see how my story evolves...

Oh, feel free to take a swing on everything I did wrong.. Sure there will be some good advise in some of the comments..

Yes, Its not a Defender.. But dammit man I did not buy it to park on the sidewalk at Pick and Pay so I push my Disco !!

I think I might have had a problem with the suspension for a while know not sure.. Perhaps its just something that Ian and he's guru's have picked up and I have made the assumption that this swim was a result there off..

My wife took my balls after this mate!

If you had managed to maintain forward momentum you would probably have not suffered all the damage. But glad you enjoyed it

There is something to learn from this incident. I also thought that a bit of momentum would have helped, but this we know now after the incident!
