That's OK-as long as it is not harder than expected!!

Very true saying Patrick Takes on new meaning when you fly with your newly licensed hubby pilot in a tiny Cessna with your two old child in the back

Seriously though, I am glad that everyone is ok and I am sure that the pilot keeping a cool head has a lot to do with it.

I used to fly a 'tiny Cessna' too-let me reassure you, they are as safe as houses!-as long as the maintenance and pre-flight checks are thoroughly done, and all the rules and checklists are obsessively followed-which every pilot is obliged to do, it is as safe as anything-and they have a fantastic glide ratio, so even an engine failure is nothing to really worry about!

    Enjoy!

@ Hatjohan, ek het ook 'n enigste kind so ek voel jou hart stilstand....

@ Patrick, no just joking. Not such a tiny Cessna, it was a 180 (?) and yes they are robust and safe. We had many happy hours with it as a family. Hubby was also well trained and eventually moved on to flying a Piper Seneca.

Yes-but before this one would hope the pilot and co-pilot are with the programme??-.......-landing gear not extended

    http://www.timeslive.co.za/world/201...-Dubai-Airport

According to air traffic control recordings cited by Aviation Herald, a respected independent website specialising in information on air accidents, controllers at Dubai had reminded the crew of the Boeing 777 to lower the landing gear as it came into approach.
Shortly afterwards, the crew announced they were aborting the landing to "go around," a routine procedure for which pilots are well trained, but the aircraft came to rest near the end of the runway instead, Aviation Herald reported.
There was no immediate confirmation on whether the landing gear was extended when the aircraft touched the ground.

All speculation at the moment still-

-but interesting it will be to find out what exactly happened-

-from some of the videos online it does look like the port landing gear may have been extended (the video where one sees the plane slewing to the starboard seems to show the port wing high)
-this could mean the starboard and centre/nose gear did not extend, or it collapsed on landing
-or the starboard engine detached upon the crash-landing, leaving that wing on the ground-which on second look at the video does seem to be what happened

-also, the indications are that there was warning from the tower about the landing gear not extended late on in the final approach, and that the pilot was attempting a go-around

-if the go around was being attempted with landing gear fully/partly extended, it would seriously hamper climb, as would climb be hampered if the flaps were partially/fullydown (which would be the normal landing configuration-'dirty')-perhaps even with leading-edge droops extended?-

-another factor which would hamper climb would be heat and humidity-said to be very high at the time (the 3 H's are drummed into pilots as factors which negatively affect climb capability by affecting air-density-hot, high,humid)-this may be mitigated by ground-effect if the aircraft was very low at time of attempted go-around, but then it would need time in ground-effect to build speed to increase lift

-it does look like the aircraft stalled in the configuration it was in-and being so low at the time, was saved of a catastrophic crash and break-up on crash-landing.

The crew and passengers are extremely fortunate to have all survived!-sadly a fire-crew member perished.

Dubai - An Emirates airliner that crash landed in Dubai on Wednesday tried to regain altitude in the last moments before it hit the ground, transponder data and air traffic control communications suggest.
The airline and investigators have not confirmed the findings, and aviation experts caution that much remains unknown about the cause of the crash.
But the data, if confirmed by the plane's black boxes, indicate the crew of Flight EK521 was starting to go around for a second landing attempt when something went horribly wrong.
Transponder data from the Boeing 777-300 obtained by aviation website FlightRadar24.com show the descending plane came close to the ground at 12:37 local time before altitude readings and the vertical speed suddenly increased, indicating the start of a go-around.
That came around the same time an air traffic control radio recording has someone calling out the flight's number and saying "returning to 4 000".
"I think it indicates that there was some kind of effort to try to gain altitude," Mikael Robertsson, a co-founder of FlightRadar24, told The Associated Press.
