    Default Daihatsu Rocky

    Hi Guys and Gals
Anyone with one of these vehicles in Pretoria?
I have my eye on Rocky rather far away, but want to view a vehicle locally before taking it further.
Anyone willing to have me check out their wheels?
    Regards
    Mike

I never knew this vehicle existed. It looks great! Wikipedia give a 1600cc on the motor but the adds mention a 2.8 diesel?

export versions got a 2.8 diesel

As far as I can see, this was the Toyota 2.8D / 2.8TD ( the 3 L engine I think).

That's cause Daihatsu is essentially Toyota.

Seen one running around, I quite like the one I've seen.

before you purchase first phone around to see what the parts availability is like.
I had my I on one a while back but certain parts (running gear, suspension components, body panels) was nowhere available unless you import.
in the end I decided against buying one.

The 1600 petrol here was the Feroza. I wanted a Rocky diesel sooo bad 18 years ago, but had no money (was a student). They're ancient and scarce as hen's teeth now; should you risk it?

Typing from memory, long time ago I had a look at one (2.8), as part of the test drive I took it to a local 4x4 trail to test.
What I recall was I said if it was really cheap and a bargain it might be worthwhile to buy.

Other than that, it was slow and noisy. Open diffs, no lockers or anything so it battled to get up the first hill, admittedly a nasty hill with loose surface, deep holes and cross overs. This must have been around 2004 I think.

    Thanks for all responses.
    I had a Defender tdi..
So no issues with slow and noisy.
As far as i could determine, they are a reliable breed.
