Default Baviaanskloof and bass fishing in December

    Hi there

We are planning on going to Baviaans in December. It will be our first time so we're looking for any advice we can get.

We'll be travelling with two Cruisers and a Jimny and will be camping. Any recommendations on good establishments? We have also heard that the bass fishing in the Baviaans is some of the best in the world, especially small-mouth, any forum members who have been fishing there recently?

    Thank you

Doringkloof camping is superb. You can view on 4x4baviaans.

Bass fishing has been quite good with smallmouth of up to 2.5kg being caught below Doodsklip. Dam is relatively low at the moment but will change after the winter rains. Camping at Doodsklip and Rooihoek is very basic ie longdrops only as this is a wilderness area. Hope you enjoy!!

Thank you for the info! 2.5kg smallmouth sounds quite good to me.
The bush ablutions may be a challenge for one of our friends but she says she'll do her best.
Have you fished there yourself? If so, any recommendations on lures?

Yes, have fished there. Best lures seem to be the Zoom Ultravibe in green pumpkin fished on a light Texas rig. Stickbaits ie Rebel Rogue in baby bass colour also work and also small quarter ounce spinnerbait in white or white/chartreuse. Last time I was there had about a kilometre walk from Doodsklip to where the water was flowing into the dam.
