    Default Amarok battery

Looks like my Amarok's battery is dying. After only 2 years and regular charging with my C-Tek. I'm not impressed. Phoned the dealers - price for a new one is about R2500. All he can tell me is that it is a 72Ah.

I can't get to the manual now and I'm not finding the correct info online (some sites mention a 95Ah).

Can someone please help me with the correct model number to ask for when getting alternative quotes?

    Thanks!

    Hi Pierre,

Where did you get the quote from?
I usually use Cymot. They have a list with all the cars (model nr etc.) and the battery to fit. Sorted Swambo's polo like that.
Remember VW fuse box is directly connected to the battery. Bit more work than just replacing but I assume you know that.

The amarok has an intelligent charging system built into the vehicle.

The charging cycles are custom tailored to the required factory battery.

Go to the dealer, give them your VIN and get a genuine battery. It will last you a long time and actually workout cheaper in the long run. My touareg battery I replaced lasted 8 years (based on the date stamp).

    Hi Pierre
I replaced my battery just before a trip to the Kgalagadi as a precaution. The original battery is well over 4 years old, but was showing signs of failure on cold mornings, hence the reason to replace.
The standard battery, in Varta's codes, a B13 hold down, battery an E44. This is a 77ah unit, with a footplate for mounting. I got quoted R 1872 for this unit.
I went to Deltec, to see what battery they had that would fit the standard mounting points.
The unit I decided on is an H3, which is a 100ah battery as shown in the picture attached, cost was R2400.
The standard battery is about 80mm shorter than this battery, and VW has a spacer piece to make up for the size difference.
The H3 fits in the standard battery holder, mounted on the footplate, with no modifications needed.

See below link to the Varta website.
    http://www.varta-automotive.com/en-g...ilver-dynamic/

It is a darn mission to get the battery out though, you have to remove 3 bolts holding the ECU, and shift it out of the way to access the footplate hold down bolt.

If you have a modern vw/audi, that cable is worth it's weight in gold. Mine has paid for itself many times over.

Nys & Marius - the quote I got was from Autohaus and they did ask for the VIN number.

In my experience the OEM batteries always last longer, that's why I don't understand that my original battery only lasted 2 years.

JohnBoy - I really like the idea of a 100Ah Varta at the same price as the 77Ah OEM but I don't know of any Varta agents in Windhoek

Interesting... phoned Zimmermann now... price for the battery is the same (also 72Ah) BUT... they have an 'economical parts' option - also genuine VW part and same quality (salesman talk) at R1330

Go speak to Oom Zimmerman himself or ask for Gert (no, not me).
Sure they will be able to tell you the right story

Thanks. I'm a firm believer (and skeptic) when it comes to 'too good to be true', but at that price, even if it only lasts 12 months, it's still a bargain...

OK, long story short, the battery is also covered under the vehicle's 3 year warranty and Autohaus will replace it as such.

Thanks for all the replies and good advice!

Sorry to resurrect, but I'm interested in the above statement...

Is this the standard VW warranty?

My battery is dying, so need a replacement soon

    Pierre,
    Just curious; want to understand.
Your Amarok is 2014 (about 4 yrs), but battery is 2 yrs old; so this must be 2nd battery failure??

    My VW's normally run 6 - 8 yrs on a battery.
My Amarok is also 2014, and no problems yet.

Sure there is not a tracking unit that starts sucking up the amps while standing??
My son had such a problem on Touran.

I've only just fitted a tracking unit, and it's supposed to have it's own supply, so I guess mines just a failure.
Going to the agents tomorrow morning to get it checked out...

To answer my own question, yes, standard VW warranty... they will replace the battery, after running a bucket load of tests...

Waiting on the outcome of my tests.

    Mine installed is a 658 C 100ah.
Why 100ah only the previous owner will know, but I`m not complaining.
