My wife has a farmstall in Klapmuts. Most GPS' has it as Potbelly Coffee Shop and Bakery. On the R44 Klapmuts. They have it. People usually make it a road trip there.

I also find Checkers' to be the best. I have tried Kings Meats, Food Lovers and Boma but they are frozen and not the best.
Fresh is always the best. Lemon juice, to cut through the fat, and Aromat or Six Gun is all they need...

I can vouch for this place, very nice meat and some of the best pies around.

In Bellville I regularly buy skilpadjies at the the Boer and Butcher Boston.

Hi Dudley, I havenít had a chance to drive to the potbelly coffee shop yet, in all honesty I had forgotten about the skilpadjies. The weather here today is beautiful so maybe today it is! I will definitely report back here when I get them.

Hi Dudley, thanks for the heads up. I still havnt ventured to the other side of Stellenbosch but I do have a checkers fairly close so no excuses now. The Venezuelan has informed me she will not be partaking though. She doesnít eat liver or kidneys etc which is odd as she is a complete carnivore otherwise. Theses Venezuelans are funny. Please remind me if you do yours in hot oil or sommer on the braai grid.

Skilpaadjies are best cooked on a medium fire from frozen with a drizzle of good olive oil and simple seasoning.

Well cooking them unfrozen on a grid is almost an exercise in futility.

Cook them thawed just like that, they have enough of their own fat, I use one of those veggie grids with the holes in it and don't move them around until they start tighten up a bitClick image for larger version.

Brilliant idea, I have found that the fat tends to drip and start huge flames that turn the goodness in to charcoal on a normal grid. Very rich but konings kos, same with a pofadder, might send your cholesterol sky high but what a way to go
