    Default Wifi In car entertainment

    This may have been discussed before…

    I found the perfect solution for in car entertainment without overhauling your car’s own system.

    Most of us have phones and tablets capable playing movies and music.

    This device – Verbatim Mediashare (or others like it), can stream data over its own built in wifi.

    Just connect a portable hard drive/flash drive or SD card, install the app on your device and away you go.

    It has a built in battery, but I have yet to see how long it lasts – though you just connect to a cell phone charger to keep it going.

    It can also stream to 5 devices simultaneously – basically a little server in your car!

    My family will be testing this setup during the June/July holidays.

    I will post feedback after this trial.

    I'm assuming that it streams to the mobile devises...?

    What if you want to play via the cars' stereo system?

    @RvanZ
    My intention is to use it on tablets and phones.
    The important thing is that whatever you want to pair with it, has to communicate over WiFi - not sure if there are car radios that can.

    @emileheyns
    To date I have only tested in on 4 devices playing the same video file.
    I will experiment more and report back.

    @veedub
    Congrats! I hope it keeps your passengers entertained :-)
    Maybe you could share what you paid for it?
    I bought mine at cost, so it wont be fair to mention that price.

    I've connected mine to a 1TB external drive.
    This should have more than enough space for a few TV series and a lot of movies!

    As for battery life, anything that spins is going to use more power, thus portable hard drives will give the biggest hammering.
    Solid state drives(hard drive/SD card or Flash drives) will give the best battery life.

    I prefer the WD My Passport Wireless, as its already got a harddrive build in.

    Thats a very valid point.

    The only reason I got the Verbatim, was that I already had an external drive.

    Something that might come in handy with the Verbatim is perhaps if you take a photo or video and want to send it to someone while still on holiday.
    With this thing you would just plug in the camera's SD card>share to your phone>email once you have reception.

    Been using a Seagate Geoflex for years (think they were the first to market wifi portable drives) and it works an absolute treat for the kids. My battery should last about 5 hours but I power it via a USB adapter anyway.

    Mine wont play funny formats via the Geoflex app but supports all the standard formats
