    2007 freelander 2 i6/td4 +- 150000km on
2008 hyundai tucson 2.0 crd 140000m awd with lock
2005 vw touareg 2.5 tdi r5 auto 160000km with low range and cdl.
    2006 colt 2.8 tdi limited edition 175000km full 4x4
    2011 steed 5 2.4 p 4x4 56000km

Honestly, for 120k i would look for a dihatsu terios. Not quite in the league of those in your list but reliable, fairly economical and should not cost much to maintain

From your list, the bottom 3 should be the beter choices

It's been said a million times, but ~2003/4 Pajero Gen 3 Di-D? Also look at X-Trail 2.5 petrol 4x4 (just add some AT tyres. The 2.2 DCi's were troublesome) or the Terios Off Road (stronger output and 250 mm ground clearance with AT's).

All those cars have crazy mileage
I wouldnt go for the Freelander as the i^ is not particularly economical

In the same mileage range there is this in your back yard. They are better than people give them credit for and it is a pukkah 4x4 with low range unlike the Terios.

There are others but they are over your budget. Just know that right now things are tight and most dealers a re negotiable.

    Other good options are
Subaru and as mentioned the Pajero. All 2005's are just outside your budget.

    Good Luck

    2015 Disco 4 SDV6 HSE - Happy Days again
    2019 Volvo XC60 D5 - Swambo's dream fulfilled. Another "platkar" that can.
2011 KTM 990 Adventure - The classic can do bike
Sadly sold: 2004 Disco 2 V8 - My beach cottage no more
Finally retired: 2006 Volvo XC70 - Swambo's "platkar" that could

my concern is some people that i have spoken to say that the 2.4 vitara is pretty heavy on juice like 14l/100 ? but thats the auto i looked at 2011 model for 130k with 140000km on the clock.

is there any truth to this. the suzuki is a lovely car . also it says no service history ? is this a concern for the suzuki's

No service history is a concern for any second hand car. If interested in this car, take the VIN and ask Suzuki to do a check whether the car was serviced at agents. But yes, Vitaras are not really known for their frugality.

Wouldn't be much worse than, say a 3.8l, Rubicon? 14-17l per 100km about...

Lusted for a Landy but the Pajero was sexier and bigger in the right departments, just like my Missus.

    I must concur.

    Or buy this:

    http://www.4x4community.co.za/classi...?product=38111

They don't break. And they're decent on fuel. And great on the open road.

    And really, for that price?

I would say be realistic about what you can afford. If you buy a vehicle that costs 700-800 k new, then don't be surprised when you get hit with huge spares costs. It is afterAll a premium vehicle.

I would say something like a 2.5 diesel ranger would be a good choice. I think these are pretty cheap to keep on the roads, give good economy and were produced locally in large numbers.
Sexy- not at all. But probably cheap and frugal to run.

I have the 2.4 m, 2015 model and my consumption pulling an off road trailer is 8,2km/l. Without trailer it varies between 11-12km/l and my average is about 10km/l or 10l/100km. For a vehicle that is permanent 4x4 and has low range, this is not bad at all.

My dad gets the same on his 2.4 Auto. Bit heavy if he pushes on but still acceptable for a petrol full time 4x4 with low range
