Hi there. I have the option to buy one of these with 190 000km on the clock. A Cruiser has always been my dream but has been out of reach so I have not really looked at them in detail. This one ,owned by a friend ,has been looked after well and is in immaculate condition. It has never done any really rough trips.I am told it has all the bells and whistles. Is this a good thing when doing trips into Botswana, Namibia? What could go wrong with a vehicle this age? What could this cost? Asking price R400 000. My gut says that this is a no-brainier,but I would like your knowledgeable opinions please.
Yip I would!
It is massive but so powerful and capable. Also comfortable for long days on the road..

Nothing, not even a mighty mountain, will stand in Zerubbabel’s way!
Stunning vehicle, if you browse through the LCOOL 200 thread you will see there any many of them with more than 200k km with zero issues. But they have some issues now and again with blowing a turbo (not that often but it does happen) which is not cheap to fix. Being a diesel factor in replacing injectors at some stage, I would reckon north of R20k.

From LCOOLI have heard from injector failure, oil consumption and this week one of my old customers phoned me, sold her 100 ser 4.2 D/T October last year, bought 200 ser 4.5 V8 and right hand turbo failed last Friday. Cruiser 210 000km on odo.
From LCOOLHello,
I've had my left turbo fail for the 2nd time in 4 months, a seal will fail releasing oil into the inlet housing which is then pushed to the intercooler. im starting to suspect that there is an over pressure inside the engine that is making the seal fail or what else could it be
does this engine have a crankcase ventilation system or a positive crankcase ventilation (pcv) that could be blocked ?
I really need all the help i can get to find out what causing this before ordering a new turbo which it too expensive.
Thanks in advance.
I have just bought a 200 Series 2007 TTD with only 75k's. Flew to Sydney to pick it up and the Turbo blew on the test drive! Supposedly they fixed it and took it for the second test drive and it was underpowered still. Flew back to Qld and they said they would fix it.
Parents picked the car up later that week and once it got back to qld we determined it was still underpowered and using 22l of fuel per 100k's! Took it to Toyota and have found out that both turbos have failed as well as an injector not working properly.
Question is can you replace the Turbos without taking the engine out? Also should I get the turbos fixed or just get new ones? Toyota want to perform a compression test also which means taking out the injectors which they are saying will almost certanly break. The car isn't using any oil just using heaps of fuel and has no power. Anyone else heard of this happening or do you think the seller has changed the turbos out before sale... Toyota say it is very rare for the turbos to fail on the 200.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I would definitely do it and that is a fantastic price. It's an added bonus knowing who owned it before. They are great vehicles and I just don't think you can go wrong, most have had no turbo trouble.

Thanks guys. Have just picked it up for the weekend. Added bonus. It has a mighty winch and OME suspension.
If it hasn't done any rough trips what is the winch for? Show or launching a boat? If the latter have a good look underneath for signs of rust.

buy it - we have a 2008 and been to Botswana and Zim.
I take the vehicle to Steves Autoclinic for all services and especially before a long trip. I know I cant fix it so I make sure everything is as good as possible.
My water cooling pipe sprung a leak once - very difficult to access even by Steves, but they did.
I know my limit is a flat tyre. So in Bots I hire a satellite phone from Sat4.
Its a superb vehicle.
I would buy another.
