Thanks very much for the report. Baboons and the odd road block aside sounds like you had a great time.

Thanks for the report and photos, pity about the baboons, though.

The Land Rover Defender has a very weak reverse light bulb, if you don't look carefully in the daylight then the light looks as if it is out - double check especially when covered with dust. At night it does give enough light for the reflective number plates to be seen properly. I have replaced mine with a LED type unit. Now no one can miss it.

Nice report thank you. It is sad how corruption and individual self enrichment had become an epidemic.

    Hmm.........not very encouraging.

It appears the best strategy in dealing with these situations is not letting them know if you are in a hurry.

I will have everything ready to make sandwiches and have a picnic!

    Great report and good humor!
Last time i went by car to zim was in 2009 - on the way to cahora bassa ; at beit bridge spent over 4 hours trying to pass the organized chaos , guma gumas , corrupt officials etc etc ; had no major issues with traffic cops and police until machipanda when 3 corrupt border officials required papers that they claimed should have been obtained in harare ...bla bla bla ( some excuse of course) ; been to harare on work assignments and flying means a total different experience;you had a great adventure and experience ;after many years of overlanding Ii have now exhausted all my patiences with cops , border officials and similar corrupt imbeciles so failed corrupt states like zim , moz ,and angola are no longer part and parcel of my vacation destination.

Agreed Jayefe. There's enough to see and do here. I wonder however if one were to go the less traveled route through Kruger if you could avoid most of these hassles ?
