Camp site closer to Maun I can recommend Drifters on the Boteti river about 30 kms before Maun, left hand side.
Closer to Nokaneng is Sepupa Swamp stop, an Overlander spot on the River.

Worst case scenario I would skip Linyanti and do the nights at Savuti.......in fact probably much better. Savuti is underrated, we all pass by, stay a night or 2, animals are amazing although the campsite is awful.
We have a confirmed booking for Linyanti for 1 night coming from Moremi North Gate. The next day we'll be heading to Kasane. The confirmed booking is on August 15.

Based on different posts I understand that the rood from Savuti to Linyanti is a nightmare (I have no experience with driving on sand) and the best option would be to take the cutline.

Will we be able to negotiate a camping site when we arrive in Savuti and drop the Linyanti site for that night without any extra costs? In other words ... see what's possible when we arrive in Savuti. What are your thoughts?

2 weeks ago I did a spontaneous trip to Bots and Savuti was fully booked. So if you can, try book ahead.

Yes having recently returned the road is bad with very thick sand.
