Default Building alteration & moving Eskom feed

I'm planning on doing a renovation at our new house. The renovation will include connecting the garage up to the house. The external Eskom feed box is currently in a position that is to be enclosed and thus will become part of the inside of the house. My question is
am I allowed to instruct my electrician to move the box a couple of meters down the same wall?

As they say, it's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission

That said, is there a way to isolate that feed before he moves it, does the feed cable need to be shortened (just bury the slack or take it up without modifying the cable), or lengthened (might means a gland and more cable).

If you're shortening and just taking up slack you might get away with it. Otherwise - Eskom I reckon. I'm sure the boys that actually know what they're talking about will be along. I've got a HC Electrical engineer mate I'll ask at a more civilized hour, he's currently {snigger} working in Iteland, still a bit early for the Spud-Monkeys

IS it the box with the metre in it?

the service provider only care about the wire up to their metre. after the metre it needs to comply, but it's your problem/cost

if you move the box, you'd need to do all the work until the box is in place, then your service provider will connect the live cable to your new box.

In Kommetjie I think the provider is COCT and not Eskom!

Apocalypse you're absolutely right, its coct and not eskom. Gungets I'm also of the opinion that with things like this its better to do then ask.
I will attach a pic of the box. I want to move it down the same wall but closer to the road. I assume that means shortening the feed cable.
So do you guys reckon I just ask my electrician to move the box?

Maybe just ask you sparkie? He should know what can or can not be done.

If you have a sparky that can work with live wires, move the box the meter reader will thank you for not having to walk that far.

On all plans nothing is hard and fast so moving it is not such an issue but I am sure you can change the location of the box without fiddling with the connection and just burying the slack
