    Default Weber Q gas braai

Who has used this gas braai?

On Amazon they go for $200 but in SA anything from $275+ equivalent...

That makes it a bit steep for camping braai maybe?

I have had my Q200 for close on 10 years.
I use it close on daily.
What I like about it is that it's not the typical gas braai.
I would compare it to a normal Weber running on Charka from a heat perspective. More controlled.
    Absolutely no gas smell whatsoever.
    Only cleaning done so far.
Burner now getting a bit old. Bought a new one 2 years ago but not fitted yet. Old one still good enough.
Base and Grid will probably outlast me.

It also works wonders with a lamb rib on low setting with the lid closed.
Expensive but will last forever and you will love the part that it's like using a normal Weber from a Heat and convenience perspective.

I also have a Multibraai Gas unit but it's used more for typical high heat restaurant type of braais.

    Thanks for the info.

I am thinking of the Q1200 as part of my cooking equipment when overlanding.

absolutely recommend this braai. I have the q2200, slightly higher lid than 2000 for roasts. U must look at australian and nz websites for accesories, They have special trays for roasts etc. I have spoken to weber here. They do not import all the accesories that u can get. Also look at aussie videos for cooking tips. Steak comes out a treat

    Het ook 'n Q1200

Soos gese bykans geen gas smaak of reuk nie
Maak redelik maklik skoon....

Edit: The same just happened again.... The price scared me away, once again!

Talking Re: Weber Q gas braai

From a retired person's perspective the Q 1200 baby Weber makes a lot of sense.

Bear in mind that we normally braai on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and during the week as well. Now, please help me with my maths.

    1000 peaces of firewood costs R 1100. That is R 1.10 per piece. I use about 15 pieces per braai. 1.10 x 15 = R 16.50 per braai excluding firelighters.

According to Weber's specifications one should get 45 braais from a 4.5 kg gas bottle or 179 g/h or 25 hours of braaing. Gas sells at around R 20 per kg. That is R 90 for a 4.5 kg refill. At 45 braais that works out to R 90 divided by 45 = R 2 per braai - R 14.50 less expensive than using firewood.

OK, I have ignored the atmosphere and the standing around a fire throwing beer bottle tops and sigarette stompies into it - one of my pet hates! That in itself is good for my health.

Just as a matter of interest - professional chefs prefer cooking on gas, so the wood smoke taste argument does not go down with them.

I just yesterday looked at the bottom of the range q1000 for the odd times we want to have a midweek steak without waiting for coals etc. Don't need a fancy model. R2999.
