    Default V8 is king

    Hi all

So was have been looking around since Jan and finally picked a beaut of a V8 in Jhb yesterday. 2010 with 107k on the clock, serviced on the button at LR dealership and for the last 2 years every 6 month on time irrespective of km.

Also got a all in aftermarket warranty included. This from a private sale and I paid R315k.

I had a D3 V8 but can now advise any one who is considering the D4 to take a drive in the V8. Its a beast and a great ride. I don't want to ever replace this vehicle...

Its such pity they discontinued this motor, it would have worked so well with that 8 speed box.

I am a very happy chappy right now and cannot wait to take it a log trip :-)

    Lekke

Jip so still happy chappy as can be.

    Question??

Has anybody tried or considered another rim supplier when looking for an 18 inch conversion on the D4? Compomotive works I know but hell if I go that route and spend that type of money I want something that is a bit more attractive to look at. I note that Mickey Thompson rims come in various sizes anyone looked at this option yet?

I noted that the early 2010 D4 was not fitted with the bluetooth phone function altho it has ll the buttons on the steering and elsewhere. Can this be fitted afterwards? What are the best options here?

Pics also added of my baby....

Odd, I'm sure the HSE has Bluetooth, maybe it's just not activated.

Find someone with a Nanocom or IID tool who can activate it for you?

On mine, while the Bluetooth was active, the voice-activated control was not and I activated it myself with my IID tool

noted that the early 2010 D4 was not fitted with the bluetooth phone function altho it has ll the buttons on the steering and elsewhere. Can this be fitted afterwards? What are the best options here?

mine has it, 2010 hse, there is a number in the handbook you need to do something with to link your phone, my kids did it for me,
i have done a 18 inch wheel conversion, i have d3 rims on, takes a bit of work but a lot less than paying 10k a rim for compomotive rims.

Thanks guys, I will pop into LR today to discuss the phone and BlueTooth issue. When I press the phone button it tells me "not fitted"...

Don't know if anyone in Bloemies will have the IID or Nanocom

Just did some quick and rough calculations using the least expensive 2015 SDV6 HSE and the most expensive 2015 V8 HSE on autotrader - roughly same mileage:
    R74 000 price difference - the V8 being cheaper
Monthly installments is R1431 less on the V8
Fuel economy 2.7km/l heavier for the V8
On avg of 3000km/month, the V8 works out at R1366 more per month than the diesel at current fuel prices.
You will have to drive approximately 4.5 years to make up the purchase price difference...

open road light in town all depends how you drive, my computer sits on 18/19 in town open road it drops to 13/14
cut the cats out change the back boxes and it sounds like a v8, i left the middle box to get rid of the drone, my d3 has a small one drives me mad but it sounds proper compared to the d4 with the standard box

Tiger wheel offer a Land Rover only selection. They don't stock them, you order and pay 50% and then the balance on delivery.
I wanted a set of 19" wheels for my day to day tar driving but it was too rich for my blood.

Reall day to day in traffic mornings and home in the afternoons: literally R100 per day (around 7.8 ltr for my 68 km trip) = 8.71km / 1 ltr petrol in the 8v
Strange with my ex disco tdv6 that trip was around 12.2km/ 1 ltr diesel

Effectively on a full tank same amount of juice and same trip conditions: I would get an additional 245 km out from the tdv6 diesel . . . .vs the V8 petrol

But .. . Engine tone and worry about the 'WHAT IF's' of the tdv6 is no comparison for the little additional fill ups I need to do with the V8.
