Hope you have many happy miles with the Jeep.

So after a 2.5 yr hiatus from owning a Jeep, today I became the proud owner of a 2001 Jeep XJ with 144000km on the clock.
Will use this thread as my build thread as well. So watch this space

So the XJ has been under new management for less than a week ... and the mods list has started.
First a couple issues to be resolved.
1. Rear Windscreen needs replacing as bought it with a busted one. Lots of searching and searching later, eventually sourced one in Worcester. Thanks to Stephen Wearne for his assistance in this.
2. The service history is complete. The XJ went for its services every 15000km ... but they were on average 2 years apart ... EEEKKK!!! So a full service is coming up probably this weekend.
The mods list. My ultimate is to have a monster jeep that can handle anything thrown at it. For now the following will be done.
1. Bushwacker Fender Flares - ordered tonight, so should be here by mid May 2016.
2. Wheel adapters - 114 PCD to 127 PCD adapters being manufactured
3. 17'' JK rims - being sourced off gumtree ... couple leads
4. 33'' tyres - also being sourced via gumtree
5. 3'' budget lift - spacers, longer shackles and longer shocks
Plan is to have this all done before mid May 2016 ... but we will see

33's won't be effective with a 3 inch lift if you intend on using it Offroad. 33's are also too heavy.

Congrats on the XJ BTW 8)
Have a look at this graph in the sticky section. Its gives a pretty good indication of lift size & tyre size compatibility.
33's won't fit without a fair amount of angle grinding, even with a higher lift. Gorman ran about a 5.5 inch lift I think.
Fitting 33's isn't a good idea with stock axles as they are just too heavy. Also you'll be sapping serious power if you don't regear. But even if you regear they'll break pretty quickly. Even a regear with 32's is pushing it.
But the biggest problem with 33's on such a light vehicle is that traction is reduced because it can't compress the tyre, especially since you're fitting 17's. Only TJ's with their separate chassis get away with it.
Thanks XJJ!
So as luck would have it, the rims and tyres I was going for are now sold and plan B has kicked in. 17" Moab Rims with 245/75/17 so its about 31.5 inches.
So according to the chart, 31 is the max for a 4 inch lift and questionable for a 2 inch lift ... hopefully 3 inch will be okay.
Plan is to regear eventually.
Will have to see how it goes.
Hows your XJ coming along?

I've got 31's with a 4,5 & it's fine. 15 inch rims are better though.
Mines still around :-)

XJ PCD is the same as a Toyota HiAce, et al. 5x114mm. Plenty of rim options if you look in the right places. You just need to decide on your offset.
Agree totally with XJJ: 33's are too much for a standard D35 and will need 5" plus lift and some cutting to articulate properly. 31x10.5x15 is your best bet.
