Default Insurance / vehicle recovery cover Polentswa route

    Hi All

We are doing the Polentswa 4x4 trail (ex Gemsbok trail) next week and are just curious to know if anyone did this trail during the past 2 weeks? Conditions?

And what do you do for insurance cover whilst on the Botswana side of KTP?
Our insurance does not cover us when outside of RSA border (just concerned about recovery etc as have read some threads about vehicles burnt out / head-to-head collisions / etc... ).

We will be 4 vehicles with responsible drivers in convoy.

    Look forward to your advice

Polentswa Trail is 'n pragtige roete - 'n paar hoë duine - verder is dit 'n mooi pad.

    If I may answer Stefan.

All insurers, banks, financial institutions and so on have underwriting criteria. This means that they look at the risk involved before taking on that risk. In this case there is a risk of damage that far exceeds the financial premium paid. It is up to the insurer if they want to accept the risk or not.

In money terms, the premium as an example could be 1000 but the cover required could be 300 000. You need to ask, why should the insurer take this risk and potentially be way out of pocket

Only my opinion!

The two months is only applicable for cross border travel.

quote " Foreign/Cross Border Travel - All cover relative to repatriation and medical evacuation as covered in terms of this policy is deemed void where foreign or cross border travel takes place within 60 (sixty) days of the inception of this policy, unless agreed to in writing and noted as such in the policy schedule by the Insurers to waive this exclusion" end quote

My Afrikaans is really bad , but I will do my best to understand your point.

Some insurers will apply a clause like the two month one to reduce the risk to themselves and by extension their clients.

Insurers do not want your business for two months only they want it for all of the time. Specialist insurers offer benefits no other insurers do.

From their point of view why would they want to give you cover for a small time period with maximum risk and then you go back to another insurer that enjoys your premium with less risk involved
