Default Berg and Bush Trip 2016

What: A berg and Bush trip

Follow on after last years successful trip, We are having another.
    • Some of the most scenic areas of the Bushveld are around the Rustenburg, Harties and Swartruggens areas.
    • These "off the beaten track" roads and have been recceed and all have been connected into one trip...
    • There is merit in having a trip that involves some of these scenic roads, and then showing people how pretty these areas are.
    • Being Bushveld, the trees are mostly green all year round and the bush and bergs, create a changing landscape that is quite awesome in its own right.
    • This will be more of a social sightseeing/exploring type of trip, although 4x4ing can be done once we reach our final destination at your choice.

    Where:

    • We will travel from DeWildts where we will all meet and camp on the Friday to near Swartruggens.
    • Some of the towns that will be close - but never entered except for provisions - will be: Harties, Maanhaarrand, Breeds nek, Vlakfontein, Heksrivier, Boons, Derby, Koster, Swartruggens
    • It will mean travelling an estimated 180 - 200 km (gravel roads and some tar)
    • There will be two camp venues, one on Friday at Dewildts( Our meeting point) and a different one on Saturday ( karee-krans outside Rustenburg )

    • Please note: This trip is designed to include All soft roaders and trailers!!!

    When:

    • From Friday the 3rd of June 2016 to Sunday the 5th of June 2016

    Plan:

    • We all meet at DeWildts on Friday afternoon or at your leisure or when you have finished work. Set up camp, sit around the closest thing that looks like a fire, have a drink, chill and have people relate on how nice it is to be out and about. We are in discussion with our travelling chef to do supper for us again as he did last year. Partcularly welcome if you are arriving late at Dewildts and still need to get supper going.
    • Saturday we set of early, Led by our Guide- Dustbin at around 8am and meander through the bushveld..Passing Haarties towards Breedsnek.
    • We can stop for a boerie or a quick brekkie or have something at a farm stall.
    • Travel further though some of the prettiest farmland and game farms. (You will see some wild, Giraffe, Elephant, buck was spotted on last years trip)
    • Saturday evening we camp at Karee, with a huge fire and lekker spirits. Straffdoppe will be dished out if necessary.
    • Sunday, you can chill at the camp, take a trip around the farm on the soft roader trail or if you want you can take the tougher trails for the guys with Diff lock and better clearance.
    • Karee Krans has a new soft roader route and then there is a more hardcore route for those who want to do it on the Sunday morning...
    • The Soft roader route takes about 2 hours
    Food:
    • The idea is to support the local little shops and to get your provisions as needed as we travel. (just a suggestion) We will be stopping at some of the smaller shops so that we can stock up if we need to. But you can stop at home before the trip just in case.
    • We will try to support the smaller guys if possible.
    • So each night you bring and braai, or potjie or whatever.

    Costs:

    • Campsite at DeWildts is R120/person/ Adult 12yrs and up , Kiddies under 3 free and R120 Per camp site.
    • Karee Krans is R80/p/night and R60/night for kiddie up to 12 Under 3 stay free.
    • 4x4 Route at Kareekraans is R250 per vehicle. This is payable only if you are doing any of the trails otherwise its only camping fees as above.

    • Bookings must be made by you directly with the relevant Camping places.

      1. Dewildt- Sandra- 083 2688185
      2. Karreekraans- 083 2395027
    • Quote Reference BBT when booking.

    • When booking and paid please inform me on this thread for how many people and kiddies so we can make sure we add you to the list of attendees.

    More info:

    • It will be over a normal weekend (Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon)
    • NB# This trip is Soft roader friendly, so we encourage everyone that would like to drive a bit of sand and dirt to come have fun.
    • Trailers are welcome.
    • There will be no rush during the travelling but there will be departure times that will need to be adhered too.
    • The Saturday is a long day of driving and stopping, so make sure you have enough eats and nibbles especially for the kids. Time dependant we may stop for a quick lunch. However, the aim is to get to our final destination by 16h00 latest
    • Both camping spots will be in designated camping areas, and there will be ablutions. (But to keep with the "overlanding feel" they will not be luxurious)
    • Bring wood.
Lastly, Our weather has been beautifull, but it is Winter, so pack some warm clothing for night time. Both camp sites have Electricity, so bring your Heaters or electric blankets if you want.
Let’s get the attendee List going.

    Hi Rechardt

We definitely be joining you guys.
It will be myself and my Fiancé.

Apart from booking the campsites and kareekrans entrance, are there any other fees that we must pay?

Nope nothing else at this stage unless we provide a meal on night 1. If anybody would like to partake, That will be no more than R25.00 per person which can be paid on the night. But will confirm if it's happening.

Waiting for hubby's dates - he might be in Zambia, might not, but will let you know - just a question, and i am not trying to blow the whistle... so let me phrase it like this, any new additions to the karee campsite?

    Hi.
    Great stuff. !
Kareekraans has been bought by new owners. The section across the road from the main entrance is been redeveloped.
We have however been given the same camping area that we used at lasts years BBT.

Myself and Disco Deon and family were there in Desember. They add some more bushcamps and new toilets with cold showers. But in desember we didn't need hot water.
